Skip the Line: Doge's Palace Secret Itineraries Tour

Venice, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Fun, but a bit disappointing. The guide dutifully gave the history of the prisons, but hardly made this wonderful place come alive. The tour didn't include the actual palace, just the prison area, and that was even more disappointing. Sure, we went on our own afterwards, but it would've been nice to have a guide for that, too. So if you want to learn about the old Venetian prison system -- and learn some fun stuff about Casanova who was imprisoned there, that part is fun. But if you want to learn about the palace itself, you'll need another tour.

Skip the Line: Venice in One Day Including Boat Tour

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

Okay tour. Relaxing boat ride, a few bits of history from the guide, but I wouldn't rush to take it again.

Skip The Line: Best of Florence Walking Tour including Accademia Gallery and Duomo

Florence, Italy

My Rating

My Review

Wow! I was a little leery when we started out because at first it seemed would duplicate things we learned and saw on our Dan Brown tour, but our tour guide -- Paul -- was probably the best tour guide I have ever had. He really made the history come alive. I mean, I've seen the David several times before, but never did I see it the way Paul had us see it. This was easily the best tour I have ever taken. If I could give 10 stars I would!

Venice Gondola Ride and Serenade

Venice, Italy

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

I've taken gondola rides before, even on tours, and this was disappointing. Six gondolas head out, but only one of them has a singer and musician, and if you are in the first 2 or 3, you can't hear the music. Then, only 1 couple gets to sit together on the boat but 3 couples are boarded and they have to sit alone on hard chairs scattered about the boat, which is hardly romantic.Plus, the boatmen are on their cell phones the entire time chatting with friends, which further ruins the experience. My advice? Find another tour.

Fabulous. Our tour guide was great, really into both the history of Florence and the book. She truly made the tour memorable. Both my wife and I would highly recommend it.

Skip the Line: Ancient Rome and Colosseum Half-Day Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Although we were tired because we started with a three-hour tour of the Vatican, our guide made the afternoon even more memorable. We visited many sights in the ancient Roman Forum, then walked to the Colosseum and walked all around there. Our only caveat would be to not try to do this tour on the same day you do another walking tour, because there is a lot, and I mean a lot, of walking. You walk up hills, down hills, visit palaces, travel over uneven surfaces, up three flights of stairs of the Colosseum, all around the Colosseum, and that doesn't mention the several blocks you have to walk from the Forum to the Colosseum. So this is a great tour, but only take it if you can handle a tremendous amount of climbing and walking.

Copenhagen Card

Copenhagen, Denmark

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Card was great to use at museums and attractions. Everyone took it and there were no additional charges. The only caveat about the card was public transportation. While it was also accepted, the map provided was very poor and made trying to ride busses and trams quite difficult. As a result, we walked much more than we had hoped to. A better public transportation map would help!

The Stockholm Card

Stockholm, Sweden

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Interestingly enough, we never used the public transportation portion of the card, although we used it extensively in Amsterdam and a little bit in Copenhagen. But the card did exactly what it promised: it provided free admission to almost every museum and palace. It even provided a discount on the boat to the royal summer palace. Definitely recommended.

I amsterdam Card - City Pass for Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This card was great for both public transportation and many admissions. Getting around Amsterdam by tram was very easy, the map provided was great, and so we had a wonderful time. The only caveat is the fact that the card wasn't accepted everywhere. Although it clearly stated which places took it -- and which simply gave discounts -- it was slightly disappointing. But all in all, I still give it 5 stars.

Saint Remy, Les Baux and Pont du Gard Small Group Day Trip

Avignon, France

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

It was nice. However, we did wish to see Nostradamas' house and were told "there's no time." But then when we got finished with Pont du Gard, we were told we were early and we had to now kill time. That was annoying. Instead we chose to go back to the hotel. I just wish the tour was a little better.
