The Stockholm Card

My Review: Stockholm was at the end of our trip and the only problem was we did not really know what we wanted to see and do before activating the card. The free use of public transportation alone was very beneficial. The Vassa Museum was phenomenal. The biggest annoyance was that the maps had the locations listed by name. It would have been easier to plan what to do if when looking at the maps there were numbers to correspond to the description pages and not just the name in Swedish. The canal tours that offered audio in English were great. We found that English was also used in many of the museum item descriptions.

Arctic Journey Highlights: Santa Claus Village, Riverboat Cruise, Reindeer Farm

My Review: I knew the general description of this experience but it far exceeded my expectations. When talking about a riverboat cruise I was expecting a small boat that had covered seating much like a ferry but instead we wore life jackets and got in a long thin boat holding only up to 16 persons with a motor on the back and it was great. The visit to the native Lapland crafts and home was so interesting, much more than just trying to sell items to the tourist it was a true learning experience. The reindeer farm and meal were very special. Then to top it all with a visit to Santa Claus was fun.

My Review: The Helsinki Card was really good. I highly advise you to do the audio bus tour first thing to get the general feel of Helsinki. The tram system was very easy to understand and, being free with the city card, was very economical. The fact that they had highlighted one specific tram route and listed what attractions were near the different stops really helped. But it would also have been nice if the specific tram and stop were listed with the description of the site. The overall feel of Helsinki was warm and friendly. We needed the whole day to truly enjoy and see Suomenlinna, and it was our favorite place of all on the trip. The guide doing the English guided tour was so dramatic and interesting in the descriptions and explanations that anyone any age would be able to see it all come to life. We had the 3-day card, but if you only have 1 day be sure to see Suomenlinna on at least part of that day.
