Gondolier was silent. He Did not even greet us in English or Italian or explain where we were. Our tour guide, named perhaps Marcella?, had a very difficult Italian accent to understand. We ended up taking our earphones off and simply following her. She meant well and smiled a lot. I did snap many interesting photos during the gondola ride and the stroll but I certainly did not know where I was...somewhere in Venice!
Such a fun afternoon excursion in a van with Andrea the tour guide, a gentleman from Siena who was friendly and very interested in sharing with us the charms of his home and the beautiful countryside . At first, we stopped for a stroll in a nearby small village within medieval castle walls. Then, we drove on to San Gimignano, a formerly strategic hilly stronghold made famous by the building of brick and stone towers. Both seemed to be places time forgot Our final stopped involved snacks and wine hosted by amiable wine sellers who treated us marvelously. With Andrea's expert driving, we were safely and quite happily returned to Siena! Thanks to all responsible for a terrific tour!
We were so lucky to have sunshine and blue skies to highlight palm trees and seaside homes along South of France shores during our drive with stops to and from the Italian Markets. We especially enjoyed climbing the hills of scenic town, Menton, and viewing other old villages from winding roadways, as well as cities of Nice and Monaco. The Mediteranean really is turquoise-blue! Our tour guide-driver, Ralph, was very knowledgable and accomodating.
Our lovely and very knowledgable guide, Frederica, gave a wonderfully thorough and extremely interesting tour to our group. Her enthusiasm was infectious. I had been on a quicker tour of the Vatican about 7 years ago and much preferred Frederica's version, learning so much! My husband and I laughed along the way - her stories including many enjoyable inside scoops. I felt especially priveleged to gain insight into Raphael's Rooms and to learn much about Michangelo, his artistic genius and his relationship with the Pope as a sculptor and as painter of much of the Sistine Chapel. Thank you, Frederica! Wishing you the best! Laurie and Nick from the Chicago area
