The trip did the job (seeing the cliffs) but the stops where way too many and we felt as if we were travelling with the international association of incontinent tourists who needed to stop to visit the toilets every 30 minutes or so. Unfortunately, it was too windy by the cliffs and we even got some rain so we can't claim that the major stop was enjoyable. Our driver/guide Joe (Joey) was a great guy, he was friendly, funny and professional.
Arrogant and incompetent guide almost ruined a visit to two lovely villages!
We went on the tour on Saturday 25th of February. The guide Jean-Pierre was not a happy camper. It seemed that he was very unhappy with his job, rambeling the same stuff in English, Spanish and French without any enthusiasm. He was obviously disturbed if someone asked a simple question. He lost track of time and the group on several occasions, which ment time spent waiting and a delayed arrival back in Brusels. He was keen though to “guide” the group to the industrial style restaurant (Vivaldi) and made great effort to make us buy stuff at the chocolate shop where he was obviously given a cut.
Actually, the only time the man cracked a fake smile during the day was when he stood by the cashier's at the chocholate shop, which he claimed was just as good as Godiva or Neuhaus.
We were more than an hour late on our way back to Brussels due to the poor time management. We had to alter dinner plans but neither the guide nor the driver were bothered when some from the group mentioned the delay and asked when we were getting back.
The boat tour in Bruges was very good and worth it. We were lucky to have a lovely guide who doubled as the captain and we wished he could stay with our group all day.
The tour to Ghent and Bruges was interesting but not thanks to the guide or the organization. The main benefit was the transportation which you could do on your own by train or bus or if you rent a car and drive yourself (rather easy and quick because the distances are short).
