Death Valley Day Trip from Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

On the day, we were picked up on time from our hotel, the MGM Grand, by our driver/host from Casino Tours, Jack. The 11 of us remained in the same mini bus all day, with no transfers at a central point. This meant no wasted time. Jack's narrative was brilliant throughout, his depth of knowledge of Death Valley and the surrounding area was outstanding, plus he encouraged fun interaction across the party. Jack took us to Dante's Peak, Furnace Creek, Devil's Golf Course, Badwater, Zabriskie Point and the Badlands/20 Mule Drive. The temperature in Badwater, the lowest/hottest point, was around 105 degrees C on the day, which was bearable for short periods to take photos. Jack was always on hand to take photos of couples as required.
My wife and I would definitely recommend this trip and this tour company, the vistas are simply stunning, if somewhat savage and the information provided helped make the day special.

Grand Canyon South Rim Bus Tour with Optional Upgrades

Las Vegas, Nevada

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

The South RIm is a long way from Las Vegas.
After an early start you are taken to a central location for transfer to your coach for the day. This involves an orientation for both West Rim and South Rim parties.
While undoubtedly efficient for the tour operators, this was all wasted time for us travellers.
The coach stopped twice en-route, which again ate into the day. Perhaps it would be better to include a basic packed lunch, so as to ensure longer at the South Rim.
After a brief stop at the Hoover Dam, we eventually arrived at Mather Point, which is truly breathtaking. Then it was on to Bright Angel for another brilliant vista.
Our coach driver, the self styled "Mohave Steve", was informative. He stopped to show us some elk by the roadside.
After a stop at McDonalds in Kingman on Route 66, we eventually got back to our hotel on the Vegas strip around 22:30.
It was definitely worth seeing what the South RIm had to offer, but it was a very long day, even then we felt very rushed and hearded along all day.

Los Angeles to Las Vegas Luxury Transfer Service

My Review

This is a very good service, prompt and comforatable as an option to flying between LA and LV. Our journey was 'guided' by a Russian lady (didn't get her name), who punctuated the journey with information, funny stories and advice. There was a short toilet stop mid-way. Recommended

Dearly Departed: The Tragic History Tour of Los Angeles

Los Angeles, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Go on this this, it's absolutely brilliant. Meeting point is a shop on Sunset, quite near to Amoeba Music, so pretty easy to find.
On arrival, we were greeted By Scott, who showed us around the shop's collection of curiosities. Give yourself time for this. Then it was of on our minibus with our guide Brian Donnelly, who has a real passion and enthusiasm for all things morbid and curious, all done in a very interesting and entertaining style, which really made this tour an absolute pleasure. Amongst other things we saw, The Chateau Marmot, The Viper Rooms, crime scenes of the Black Dahlia, where Michael Jackson passed away and it's relation to Elvis's LA place. Do it!

San Diego Zoo with Transport

Los Angeles, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Best zoo we have ever visited. Best layout, so you can actually see the most reclusive animals and the best selection of animals all gathered in one place. I'm talking about rhino, pandas, koalas, orang utang, polar bears, komodo dragons, Galapagos tortoise and a really good reptile house with many unexpected and beautiful creatures, such as neopolitan rattlesnakes and ming vipers.
It's a pretty long day, around 13 hours total, but well worth it.

My Review

Great place. You get a two day ticket, which you will want to take advantage of, as there are so many rides and other things to do.
It's easy to get to from Hollywood or West La on the Metro, which is a very cheap way to travel.
Personal favourite things to see are: Waterworld Show, Shrek, The Simpsons, Transformers, Jurassik Park, Haunted House, Backlot Tour, Pets on Film.
A 'must see' attraction for all ages.

Los Angeles Arrival Transfer: to Los Angeles Hotels

Los Angeles, California

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

On arrival at the airport, it took a while to find the Shuttle Bus representative initially - get some signs please. Whilst waiting, several identical shuttles drove past our position with no explanantion as to why. After around a 30 minute wait, our shuttle arrived, but even then it stopped at several other positions around the airport before finally departing for our hotel. Can't help but think that the whole process took much longer than expected. Perhaps the reps could be more welcoming and informative. However the service did it's job and there was no worry about the cost of using a taxi is this often 'traffic standstill' location.

Our guide Chris, from Nature Trails, was very informative and funny. The walk is pretty easy, especially if you do the early (sunrise) walk before it gets too hot.
The views of Waikiki from the top of Diamond Head are stunning, plus Chris was always available to take pictures of couples

Our guide Ross made sure that the walk up to the Waterfall was both informative and entertaining. The walk is pretty easy, but wear trainers or walking boots, as it can be slippery in places.
The waterfall itself is very pretty and the surrounding flora is varied.

Waianae Coast Snorkel Cruise with Dolphin and Seasonal Whale Watching from Oahu

Oahu, Hawaii

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Go on this
What an adventure. Our guide, Mandy, made sure that we saw spinner dolphins, both from the boat and from the water, so we did swim with dolphins.
We snorkelled for about an hour and photos were taken by Perrin for us to buy. Some folk saw turtles, but I didn't, though I have since seen the photos.
We got a bit burnt on our backs from the snorkelling, so make sure you smother on the sun screen or wear a vest.
As first time snorkelers, this was a real highlight of our holiday.

My Review

We attended this luau (Hawaiian word meaning feast) on our first night in Hawaii. It was brilliant, the local demonstrations and dancing, giving a flavour of Hawaii, plus very cheap drink made for a great time.
We threw spears and had garlands and wristbands made in the traditional style.
We have great memories of this evening and we highly recommend

Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam Day Trip from Las Vegas with Optional Skywalk

Las Vegas, Nevada

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Grand Canyon West Rim Tour with Airbridge Tours. Driver was Thomas, who kept us informed and amused for the duration. Stopped at the Hoover Dam on the way for a photo opportunity. Then once at the Grand Canyon, we stopped at Eagle and Guano Points. Breathtaking views. Saw wildlife, such as eagles, chipmunks and lizards. Looked around different types of native american tents. The weather was cooler than in Las Vegas on the day. A trip to Las Vegas would not be complete without seeing this natural wonder

San Francisco Golden Gate Seaplane Tour

San Francisco, California

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Picked up at Pier 39 by driver Paul, who ferried us to Sausilitio. The plane used was their 4 seater, as we (my wife and I) were the only customers at the time. Pilot was Glenn. This short trip, about 15 -20 minutes duration, took us around the SF Bay area. It was exciting to be in such a small aircraft and taking off and landing on the sea was a first for us. Mid afternoon views were a bit foggy, but this is SF after all, and there were some restrictions as where the plane could fly above, as the Americas Cup was taking place at the time. Overall a good adventure and experience, if somewhat shorter than we expected.

2 hour walking tour around Chinatown. Tour guide was Linda Lee, who had a real passion for the area, the culture and for passing that information on to us, she was a great communicator. Our party visited a medicine store, food shop, fortune cookie factory and a temple, this gave us a flavour of life in Chinatown. Highly recommended.
