Brilliant weather for a great trip to the Spice Market and the Bosphorus Cruise. The courier was extremely knowledgeable and very interesting about the history of Istanbul. The Spice Market is absolutely brilliant, for us, better than the Grand Bazaar! This was followed by a trip over the river to the Asian side of Istanbul to join a boat cruise up the Bosphorus. The boat was not overcrowded so we were able to move around easily plus enjoy a drink from the cafeteria. The commentary was very interesting, explaining about the Golden Horn and pointing out the famous Palaces and Castles.
On our return to the European side of Istanbul we left the coach at the Spice Market and spent the rest of the afternoon browsing and purchasing teas, nougat, turkish delight and many spices. Excellent!!!
We were collected from our hotel and joined a small group of tourists for a great tour if Istanbul. The local tour guide had a very good knowledge of the history of Istanbul but it would have been helpful if he had carried an identifying item e.g. umbrella, as we did loose sight of him sometimes. The Hagia Sophia is magnificent as is the Basilica Cistern and the Topkapi Palace where we were amazed to see many 'relics' such as the walking stock of Moses and a cooking pot used by Abraham.
We were taken to a local cafe for an excellent lunch, with choices for the meals, which was served
very quickly by great staff.
Our afternoon stop was at the Blue Mosque, however we were late going in, as they were due to shut the Mosque so were extremely disappointed not to have enough time to take photos.
The next down side of this tour was being taken to a 'Carpet' salesroom where after being shown a weaving loom we were taken upstairs to their show room and shown lots of different carpets and then surrounded by salesmen. I decided to leave the room and was questioned why and where I was going!!!
This meant that we did not have a long time to look around the Grand Bazaar………. thank goodness it was near our hotel and we were able to go back.
An excellent tour in a wonderful city, walking across the Capilano Suspension Bridge is a breathtaking experience which I am very pleased I completed.
The courier has an great knowledge of the city and made the day very interesting.
I recommend this tour to all
Excellent tour, we were taken by coach to the Moroccan Dinner and Cultural Show. The meal was very good and the show was very exciting witht eh Berbers showing their brilliant skills with the horses.
