An OK tour, but not the best. The meeting place was a bit sketchy at a hole in the wall with a cranky old man behind a counter who stamped our tickets and grunted. This uninviting place was filled with stacks of paper, binders, non-functioning clocks and some kitsch.
The trip to Heidelberg was rushed. We spent about 10 minutes in the castle which deserved more time. Some of the 1.5 hours of free time could have bee spent at the castle. The walking tour in the old town was all of 5 minutes. The guide Jack was ok, knowledgeable with a sense of humour, offering to answer any tourist type questions unrelated to the tour.
After our Heidelberg tour we drove back to Frankfurt on the bus which was not at all 'luxury' and waited at the office for 3:15 PM for the Rhine cruise tour. The all day tour was actually two half day tours. There was only four of us, so Jack drove us in a luxury Mercedes SUV. It took us about 1.5 hours to get to the boat dock and the light was fading. We spend about 2/3rds of the cruise in the dark. I would not recommend this tour this late in the year, especially after the weekend fall time change. Dinner, dried up half grilled chicken and fries was in an ugly kitchy restaurant. Dessert cost extra if you wanted it. The homemade apple strudel was just edible. The server and proprietor of the restaurant was a bit pushy though I think that was her idea of friendly. The included wine tasting was unpleasant, done after dinner at our table with the wine in little plastic shot glasses. We felt like we were held hostage until we bought a bottle.
Great way to experience the market and learn about the food you are eating. The kitchen was clean and well laid out, with an option to participate in the cooking or sit back and relax. The chef was friendly and informative with a great sense of humour. There was lots of great food to eat and we weren't rushed.
