Getting our own tickets ahead of time was still worth it with out the tour. We got in right away and wound up doing the museum at our own pace about 5 hours. Renting the headsets was a plus. Bring earbuds to hear better and privacy/hands free

Definitely recommend the hop-on-hop-off to get around town vs other transportation around town. I did not like this company's time table. They told us a 20 minute layover at St. Peters and they left about 15 min. My wife and I went our own way to get a quick souviner. She made it back in about 15 and I got their around 17 min. she said the bus left at 15. Later, we were at a stop waiting to be picked up and waited over 45 minutes, while 3-4 redlines came by and a few other different ones passed us.

This was incredible... Just being there could have been enough, but our guide was wealth of knowledge. Never stopped talking during the entire 3-3 1/2 hours. All great info. Was always open to questions. Found out at the end that she had a PhD in Archaeology from the University of Rome.

Definitely worth the day excursion. Well informed tour guides. There was so much to look at in the maze of the city, the guides were a plus to make it thru everything. Took us all over Pompeii. Lunch was a nice touch, but wasn't impressed with the selection. Would have been nice to have the radio headsets for the pompeii tour, like the colosseum tour had.
