In spite of rather disappointing weather , this was an excellent trip and both the castles are well worth the visiting. Oberammergau was a tourist stop and a time filler. Lunch at the suggested restaurant hotel was fine, if rather typical cuisine. The only reason I haven't given it 5 * is because of the walk for Neuschwanstein and the number of stairs involved once inside the castle. There is some indication of this in the blurb, but it is enough to make it very impractical for anyone with any mobility issues. There are buses and horse carriages, but the guide was very negative about them because of queuing and the fact that they didn't always want to take people back down to the village. In the event, people were able to use these, but a couple in our party were late back to the bus and almost left behind. So, the safestoption is to do the 30-40 minute walk up to the castle, but as I've said this isn't suitable for everyone.

An excellent tour, but with a lot of extras to pay for: Seal island, lunch and Penguin colony. Seal trip and lunch were good value, but the penguins were a bit of a disappointment, compared to those we had seen elsewhere. With hindsight I wouldn't have paid the extra fee, but then what does one do, sit on the bus? Apart from this small gripe, the rest of the day was great. We had good weather and a terrace seat in the restaurant. We saw quite a few animals and lots of wonderful views. There was also a lot of variety e.g. the visit to the Botanical gardens, at the end of the trip. The guide was fun and knowledgeable, though at one point we thought we had lost a few people. They had fallen behind, but had clearer instructions been given about the meeting place, it could have been avoided. Sorry to say again that the time of the pick-up was changed. I found this out when I called about our half day trip, the day before. Although the voucher does ask you to check, on arrival, this isn't always possible and again the hotel had received no information on pick-up times, which they said they did most times. I think this confusion has to be addressed as most people have travelled great distances have limited time available and don't want to be anxious about collection. Alan

Enjoyed this trip and the guide was very knowledgable and amusing. However, there was some confusion about the pick-up time and we had to have the hotel call to check that someone was coming to collect us, even though everything was confirmed before we left. Hotel said that they normally received details of final pick-up time from the Agent, but not this time. We were lucky and able to go up Table Mountain, after some queuing. No discounts though, unless you are a South African Senior and then only 1 day per week. Desk staff advised poor visibility, but it was clear when we got to the top, although visibility fluctuated a bit, as did temperature. Felt the City tour was rather cursory, but presumably if the visit to Table Mountain hadn't been possible it would have expanded to fill the available time. Happy we were able to go up the mountain though, as the views were spectacular. Alan
