There was no significant benefit from the Skip the Line tickets on the day we attended Tower of London. There were no lines and, similar tickets can be purchased on site in London from a wide variety of places, including the Hop on Hop off bus.
The free beefeaters tour is, I understand, part of the standard ticket price. That said, the tour by the beefeaters is fantastic and should not be missed. Similarly the welcome office at the Tower of London is highly professional and provide maps, daily itinerary (review this and plan your visit).

We, like others attending Madame Tussauds at the same time, were stunned to learn that we needed to queue in the (advance purchase tickets) line although we'd purchased skip the line tickets. Our wait was a little shorter than those who had not prepurchased tickets but not that much. This seems to suggest that skip the line tickets are widely purchased for Madame Tussauds so the line issue has shifted. Don't expect to show up and enter immediately.

The bus service is professional and has stops at all major sights in London. There are a number of routes that you can take so there is flexibility covering different interests.
The experience in large depends on the tour guide on the bus - we went on the route with the live guide. We had a number. One was superb - interesting, informative and funny. Others were more dry.
The tour includes a short cruise on the Thames. This is worth doing .
Atlthough the tour group was quite large the guide dealt with this expertly. Overall the tour was excellent and we saw the top 15 or so works in the museum. Her explanation of key works was excellent. She was sympathetic and dealt with a number of older tour members with mobility issues highly sensitively.
One minor criticism was that the tour started from the company office across the road from the louvre so time was wasted as we walked across the road and to the louvre.
Note that you can stay in the Louvre after the tour so this is worth doing to explore the egyptian exhibitions, which do not form part of the tour.
Our guide on the day was sensational and really made this a tour to remember.
Of the 10 skip the line things we did in France and Italy this one demonstrated the value of skip the line as queues were huge - at 9.30 in the morning!.
The tour covered the history and features of the tower, together with history of Paris and recommendations of places to visit and practical tips on cruises etc. This far exceeded our expectations and by far the best tour we've done.
Both destinations were beautiful and this day trip is a time efficient way to see both when you are short on time. That said, the experience falls into the classic bus tour experience.
The bus guide had her hands full with a double decker bus of patrons. She gave live commentary in english, french and spanish. I felt that the need to do it in the 3 languages curtailed what she could tell us.
In Siena, the group was divided into language groups and we were handed over to an English speaking guide who took us on a walking tour of Siena. This was really interesting and she was very knowledgeable but felt a little rushed. We had free time to get our lunch before heading back to the bus to head to San Gimignano.
In San Gimignano we were left to our own devices. That was a bit disappointing but the beauty of the town was clear without explanation.
This tour was superb. The guide was knowledgeable, helpful and brought the art works and their creators to life.
On the tour we saw the usual highlights but also a range of other interesting pieces. The explanations opened our eyes to the complexity and difficulty of sculpture and painting which put us in good stead for other gallery visits in Italy and France.
The tour proceeded at the perfect pace - allowing time to look closely at art works, visit bathrooms and rest (some rooms get very warm if full).
Cannot fault the tour in any way.
This tour was fabulous and I highly recommend it to anyone. It was our favourite tour. We were a family with children aged 9 and 11 and everyone in our family was delighted with the tour.
The guide was knowledgeable, passionate and keen to meet the needs of the group. She brought a book of pictures to help visualise what the forum and colosseum looked like in the past.
She also ensured that there was adequate photo time, resting time and bathroom visits. This made a huge difference as it was a hot day.
The tour company also got our vote. We mixed up the day of our tour and missed it. When we contacted them they were sympathetic and allowed us for a minor charge to attend another tour the following day.
