Versailles Guided Tour with Optional Fountain Show

Paris, France

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Comfortable bus trip out to Versailles if you can handle the oldies who practically fight for the best seats (front at top!), excellent english speaking guide, a bit of sheep herding past all the other tour groups through some palace rooms and some time at the end to walk around the grounds.

Paris L'Open Hop-On-Hop-Off Tour

Paris, France

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

This tour was okay, but we had already seen some of the main sites so it was a bit superfluous for the family. An opportunity to rest the feet and listen to assorted obscure facts about the city, along with a couple of gems. We thought we'd use it to get around, but ended up using the Metro for that.

Paris City Tour, Seine River Cruise and Eiffel Tower

Paris, France

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

Maybe we were tired, but this was a bit of a flop. Felt like being herded with ten million other frustrated and pushy people (mainly oldies). The city bus tour was just being stuck in traffic and the tune they play gets a bit much! (you'll know what I mean).
The Eiffel tower "Miss the Queues" is not really true, it wasn't really any faster because of the number of the people in the place. Note that you have to pay extra to go to the top, which everyone wants to.
If you want a romantic or relaxing boat trip on the Seine, then pay some real money. This is just 300 people on plastic pews feeling like sheep.
Note that you do the bus trip with a guide, but they leave at the bottom of the eiffel tower and you do the tower and later find the boat trip by yourself.

Bavarian Mountains and Salt-Mines Tour from Salzburg

Salzburg, Austria

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Top little tour that the kids enjoyed too. The Salt-Mine is a good little tourist thing to do. Good info from the driver about Hitler's Eagle's Nest retreat (which we didn't see - wasn't open yet and cloudy).

Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum Half-Day Trip from Krakow

Krakow, Poland

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Probably the most comprehensive tour and definately the best tour guide in our 6 weeks overseas. This lady did justice to the place. Well spoken, quiet, respectful. I wish I could say more.
If you want to know Auchwitz, this is a good tour. Well suited for both my history teacher wife, and my 11 year old son.
There is some time in a comfortable bus to get out to Auschwitz and back.

Prague Bike Tour

Prague, Czech Republic

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

Have done a few bike tours, but this one wasn't really up to scratch.
The tour guide spoke too quietly and never in the direction of the listeners, even after asked to speak up.
A bike tour is a nice change to walking, but you won't see that much here.

Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Comfortable bus and trip.
The little Linderhof Castle was absolutely fantastic, totally recommended.
Neuschwanstein Castle was a massive tourist trap. Be prepared to wait for hours for a sheep herding exercise through a couple of rooms and then you're out the schute. I hope you like being near a lot of people.
Our guide spoke poor English and too softly. I would rather have gone and sat in a park. Sorry.

Panoramic Bike Tour of Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Pretty comprehensive bike tour. Covered all the main places and good info from the guide. The route was interesting and safe enough that my 11yr son managed it (with SOME heart palpitations here and there).
You can walk Rome, but this was nice change and covered some places a little further away e.g. views over the city.
Some steepish hills, but you'll be right.

Skip the Line: Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica Half-Day Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

I don't know how much of the line we skipped, but in Rome you have to do the Vatican and this is as good as any. A good guide, spoke well. The Basilica had a MASSIVE queue, we didn't go there.
Note that you finish a loooong way from the cloak room and have to walk for ages back through the streets to that entrance to find your bag!
