Ian (sp?) was our guide and he did a great job dealing with 6 different delays and changes that happened with the tranportation to Salzburg. There was one problem after another with Germany's trains and buses, but he kept his sense of humour and kept his eyes on us to keep us together. He actually got off the train to look for me when it was getting ready to leave. He found me and we ran for the train to catch it.
Because of all of the delays he asked the group if they wanted to stay 2 hours later than scheduled. Everyone agreed. However, the trip was still cut short in Salzburg by about 1 hour.
We thought that we were taking the express train to Salzburg, but we didn't. We also thought that the trip included a bus tour of most of the Sound of Music sights, but it did not. The tour of Salzburg was just a walking tour.
So, this rating is for the guide who had to deal with complaining customers and many delays and change of plans. He kept flexible and made sure that we got the most out of the trip that we could.
I will have to go back to Salzburg another time because there is a lot to see and it is so charming.
The guide, Mike, was very knowledgeable and helpful. He made very sure that everyone knew the plan for meeting up. He gave us some options sometimes of where to eat or what path to take.
Neuschanstein is much more beautiful than I ever thought it was. It is in such an awesome and idyllic setting with the alps. The castle is very big and beautiful inside and out. The inside tour is extremely short. He said it was 30 minutes, but it felt like 20 minutes. We were really rushed through. This castle is so popular that you have to visit at a reserved time.
I would really like to go back during the summer when everything is green. It was raining when we went and we couldn't see the alps because of the haze. It wasn't until the end of the day on the train back that the alps became clearer and more distinguishable.
Guide was fun and knowledgeable. Met some great people in our group and had beer with them at the end. The guide was not feeling very well and could not go to the final destination with us (Hofbrauhaus). The museum was much better than I thought it would be. It's in a very small house/tavern/restaurant that is very old.
