Private Cappadocia Food and Culture Tour: Ayvali Village, Turkish Cooking Class and Wine Caves

Cappadocia, Turkey

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
I can’t rave enough about this wonderful experience. The guide, Tolga, and his family were so warm and welcoming; we really did feel like family friends being welcomed into their home. The food was delicious and there was so much of it (maybe even too much since it was all for the two of us) and we learned a lot not only about the food but also about the family and life in Cappadocia. This experience was the highlight of our trip.

Ultimate Road Trip: Campervan Rental from San Francisco

San Francisco, California

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
My husband and I loved our campervan rental! The large van was easy to drive yet roomy enough to sleep comfortably in. We liked the freedom it gave us to drive around decide where to stay each night and the savings on a hotel room, but we also really liked that it was more comfortable than camping. When it rained all night I was very glad to be warm and dry in our campervan bed.

Small-Group Maui Tour: Haleakala National Park, Lavender Farm and Wine Tasting

Maui, Hawaii

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
The small group tour to Haleakala with a lavender farm visit and wine tasting was a great way to spend a day on Maui. We started with a stop to have some coffee and breakfast while looking for whales along the coast, and then continued on the long and winding (take dramamine if you get car sick!) ride up to the volcano. After a few minutes to check out the views, we headed back down to stop at a lavender farm for lunch before heading to our final stop, a winery that makes several kinds of wine, including a very unique - and very sweet - pineapple wine. Our guide was great; he was informative and funny and shared a lot of information about life on Maui. The tour was a long one, but we loved the chance to see so many diverse areas of Maui in one day.

Beer Day in Iceland

Reykjavik

My Recommendation Tip

Iceland passed Prohibition laws in 1915, but but lifted the ban on wine and spirits after only a few years. Ironically, the ban on beer remained, as people feared that the low cost of beer would encourage drunkenness. Of course, Icelanders found a way to get drunk off of beer despite the ban; they simply mixed hard liquor with the non-alcoholic beers available at the local supermarkets. In the late 80s Parliament came to its senses and repealed the ban on beer, making it legal again on March 1st, 1989.

Baiersbronn in the Black Forest

Frankfurt

My Recommendation Tip

Tucked away in Germany‘s Black Forest, the village of Baiersbronn is home to some of Germany’s best chefs. Though it’s long been known (especially among Germans and Swiss visitors) as a great place to hike, spa, and relax, it’s lately become known as one of Germany’s best culinary destinations. There are only 15,000 people living in Baiersbronn, but there are more Michelin three-starred restaurants here than anywhere else in Germany.

Iceland's Natural Wonders

Iceland

My Recommendation Tip

While Iceland‘s culture, food, music, art, and nightlife are all great reasons to visit the small island country, it’s the natural wonders here that really set the destination apart from all others. From the Northern Lights to thundering waterfalls, geysers and glacial lagoons, volcanoes, caves and hot springs, Iceland offers an incredibly diverse range of landscapes, geological oddities and beautiful sights.

Things to Do in Iceland in Winter

Iceland

My Recommendation Tip

Despite its name, Iceland doesn’t get as cold in the winter as you might expect. It’s still quite chilly but you’ll find temperatures rarely dip below 20° F so you can still enjoy all that the country has to offer without worrying about frostbite.
