The three day hop in hoo off includes three additional mini-tours. This ended up being our Primary form of transport around the downtown section of Chicago. The bus came regularly and there was a lot of room ( it was cold in November). The usual American tour guide desperation for tips was abundant but you just set your price in your head and ignore them. Lots of good information. We would highly recommend this service. You also get a free t-shirt and a Hershey bar.
We were informed that our tour had been cancelled as the season ended the day before our paid tour but the provider offered another day. Fortunately, we had not planned another activity so we agreed. The timing of this tour is essential to reconfirm. Also, if you are looking for fall leaves coniser up to early October only. Having said that it was a great day. We saw lovely lakes and quaint villages. The highlights were the 45 minute cruise on the lake and the stop at the mountain. We walked about 1/4 of the "mountain" and had incredible views of the lake. We also enjoyed a great lunch at the resort. The tour guide, Gigi was very informative and pleasant and the driver was a real character. Returning to Montreal was not much fun due to the traffic but the driver took us on a back road and we saw more aspects of Montreal. It was well worth the early start for the day ( pick up from the hotel was at 7.10am).
Stunning Views Except if you need a Toilet
This was the best tour we did in Europe six weeks from Australia). The day is full but you get to see so much of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. We did not have a lot of time in some of the villages and if you need to go to the bathroom (especially after the delicious lunch and wine tasting at the vineyard) be prepared to queue for a long time in the villages (sometimes 30 minutes). Italian toilets are renowned to be out of order, expensive to use and filthy. It is better to go straight to a restaurant, have a coffee (overpriced and consistently disgusting coffee) and use their facilities. Our tour guide, Sandra warned us about all of this. She was knowledgeable, charming and professional. We loved the light lunch provided at the vineyard and the walk up the leaning tower (extra cost) was wonderful. We consider this a MUST DO - escape Florence for a day - it's worth the toilet lines.
Wonderfully Helpful Staff
We went to Zurich for one reason only - to transfer to Chur to catch the Bernina Express. We negotiated a wonderful way to do this. Viator helped us to use the bus tour as the means of most of the transport. We were to be dropped off close to Chur at the conclusion of the tour. Both the guide and the driver helped us greatly, including dropping us off at a train station at a town 15 minutes from Chur. The actual tour commences at the main bus "terminal". In reality this is a car park not far from the main train station. The staff there were very friendly as well. The quick tour of Zurich is enough and then the countryside is magificent. Our guide was a lovely man but emphasised the importance on some minor things (e.g. that is a bank where you can get some money if you need it). The stop at "änother country" was fun and worth the money for the stamp. We didn't bother with the Heidi house but the countryside really is breathtaking. If going to Switzerland, be prepared for extremely high prices. A basic meal in a restaurant will cost around 90 Swiss Francs. We were shocked by this. The taxi drivers at the station are also terrible and refuse to go on short distance trips suggesting you drag your bags.
