I will be honest. I thought the price for this tour was outrageously high but booked it anyway. I didn't realize until we checked in that the tour was actually a bus tour to three different catacombs, each of which were amazing. Our tour guide, Peter, had an excellent knowledge of the history of each location and his enthusiasm for his topic was infectious. I was very pleasantly surprised by this tour and by the end, definitely felt that the price was worth it! I think Viator could have done a better job of describing this tour in advance. I wonder how many more people might sign up if they had a more detailed description of the tour. For the record, the tour goes to the Saint Calixtus, Basicilia di San Clemente (which is not one but three different churches, built one above the other over centuries) and finally, the Capuchin crypt. Each of these are fascinating by themselves but together made for an incredible afternoon trip back in history. I definitely recommend this tour!!
When we arrived at the catacombs, just before opening time, the line to get in stretched literally, all the way around the block!!! We later learned that it was more than three hours of wait! Our tour, luckily, bypassed the line and went right in. The American tour guide was well versed on the history of Paris catacombs. The tour was about an hour long and both fascinating and creepy. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who is tired of the museums and art and wants a different experience in Paris.
