Paris City Tour, Seine River Cruise and Eiffel Tower
Paris, France
My Rating

Our Paris City Tour was interesting and informative until we reached the Montparnasse Tower. We knew the visit to the Tower was replacing the Eiffel Tower because only one elevator was working at the Eiffel Tower. We were not told that because only two elevators were in use at the Montarnasse Tower, the size of the crowd meant that it was a 15 minute wait in a queue to get an elevator back to the ground floor to get back on the coach to take us to the boat for the Seine River Cruise. We were 3 minutes late getting back down the tower and the coach had left without us. At 5.33pm on a Friday afternoon no one answered our frantic phone calls to the office and so we completely missed the river cruise.

A fascinating place shown to us by a great guide. Wish we had not booked another tour for the afternoon as we could have stayed for hours more to see some of the other treasures of the Louvre.

Auvers sur Oise and Giverny Small Group Day Trip from Paris
Paris, France
My Rating

This was the best of the tours we took in France. Ian, our English guide, was very informative and obviously loved his subject, namely the lives and art of Monet, and Van Gogh in particular. We saw Monet's house and gardens in the morning and were pleased we did not have to join the long queue on that hot summer's day. The gardens were beautiful, especially the water garden. Our small group of six was just right for conversation over an enjoyable lunch at Moulin de Fourges and then a visit to the quiet village of Auvers sur Oise. We saw Van Gogh's grave where he lies next to his brother and the church, fields and Van Gogh's room that were already familiar sights because of his paintings. We must thank Ian also for his advice on trains and timetables for our journey to Villers Bretonneux the next day. If you don't like big groups, this is the tour to take.

The Original London Sightseeing Tour: Hop-on Hop-off
London, United Kingdom
My Rating

Loved this tour. The weather was perfect. Hopped off just in time to see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace then hopped back on for Big Ben, Westminster, Tower Bridgem, etc. The cruise down the Thames was very enjoyable and we decided to continue on past the Tower of London and see Greenwich instead. The acres of 18th Centrury buildings at the Old Royal Naval College was jaw dropping and in particular the Great Painted Hall. We only had one day in London this was the perfect tour.
