Our guides Christine for Florence and Paola for the Museum were supurb! Both were knowledgable and fun about everything. The place for Lunch was wonderful and the whole day was a dream come true for me as I have always wanted to go to Florence. The two ladies made my dream even more of an amazing reality. I would highly recommend this tour for the bonus history lessons you get along the way which enhance your trip. I would do this visit again, but next time, I would like to stay in Florence for a few days. There isn't enough time to see and do everything!
Max our driver and tour guide was fantastic! He dealt with a few glitches like being rear-ended near Napoli and a kid in our van getting car sick, like a pro. He was fun, knowledgable and really knew his history! Not to mention he stopped in the most amazing places for views as well as took us to Chez Black restaurant in Positano where the food was to die for! I can't say enough about this man for the care and grace with which he handles himself!
On the other hand, when we went to Pompeii, I was less than pleased with Guiatano, our guide there. I would much rather Max had that job. Guiatano introduced himself by saying if we read Rick Steve's book on Italy we would see him listed there. Okay... And the rest of the tour comprised of Giatano spending most of the time in the 2 block radius of Pompeii's brothels. He was knowledgable, but I wanted to see more of Pompeii's life other than one middle class house, the market, the male bath and the brothels. There were kids in our group and the wall murals depicted sex acts. I'm no prude, but really? Kids were there. Anyway, I wanted to see Pompeii all my life and Guiatano showing us a few blocks didn't cut it. He said it was the best of Pompeii, but how would we know? And he was very rude to other people who happened to be near when he talked saying they are not part of his group and need to leave. I could have done without Guiatano. Max however, I would happily see again!
Our guide was very knowledgable but spent a bit too much time on talking about the history of the art and Vatican in one place and then rushing through parts you kind of wanted to see. I liked her and was happy to have her, but the standing for long periods of time didn't allow you to see the art as she spoke. I found myself drifting away from her to explore on my own. Still, I would do the tour again if nothing else to bipass the line.
