Tokyo Skytree, Asakusa and Central Tokyo Sightseeing Tour

Tokyo, Japan

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

The guide had a lot of information and was very good. The first part of the trip is mostly a bus ride through the city but Asakusa was very interesting and the Skytree was excellent. I would recommend the tour even just for the Skytree. It holds hundreds of people. The lines were VERY long but on this tour we got to skip the line and went right in. With this tour you wont have to get transportation, including VERY expensive taxi, there or find parking and you will be dropped off at Tokyo Station after the tour guide rounds you up. It was very convenient. Also, the tour was in the evening so we got to see the sunset and see the city in the dark. I thought the allotted time (90 minutes?) might be too long before we went but with the size of the place and the number of people there the time was just right.

Tokyo Robot Evening Cabaret Show

My Review

This was one of the craziest, over the top things I have done with my family. We loved it. I took my kids, age 7 and 14 and they thought it was crazy, fun and without a doubt entertaining. Even though the description says its in the Red Light District I personally did not think it was inappropriate for the kids. It was lit up like Las Vegas but more of a fun party atmosphere than the "bad side of town". Nothing inappropriate happened and the show itself is not risque at all. Trust me and take the address IN JAPANESE with you in the taxi since most drivers don't speak English and ours was not familiar with the place. You can get there with the metro and complicated walking instructions. Unless you are familiar with the area you should just take a taxi, even though they are expensive, because you may just never find the place and the metro is a hike in the dark after hours. You will have to get out of the taxi on a main street and walk down a pedestrian street about 1/2 a block so just know the taxi doesn't drop you off in front. There are a lot of stairs in the club but they do have an elevator if you need one. Once seated take your drink coupons and get all your drinks before the show starts. The cocktail girl was in demand and we never did use all our vouchers. The food was not good so don't rely on it for a good dinner but you will see it is not about the food. There are a lot of lasers, lights, noise and some smoke in case that bothers anyone (kids or grandparents). This is a MUST DO in my opinion.

Kyoto Full-Day Sightseeing Tour including Nijo Castle and Kiyomizu Temple

Kyoto, Japan

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was an excellent tour. Kyoto is a quaint city in some respects but unless you are prepared to really study the history and spend some serious time walking and taking the metro, you won't see these sites with this much information and this efficiently. The guide was excellent. All of the stops were extremely interesting and the guide explained all of the history. The time allotment was good. We traveled with kids (7 and 14) and they were interested in everything. Beware that if you have those who cannot climb a lot of stairs or walk an incline at the last stop, Kiyomizu Temple, they may have to wait at the bottom. It is an inclined road, leading to a lot of stairs with a very large and interesting complex at the top. The view is incredible and the site very interesting so don't skip it if you can handle the stairs. There is great shopping on the small streets below if you want to leave the tour there and make your way back to your hotel on your own. The last stop is right next to the Gion District. Our hotel was there so we shopped, tested sake, ate green tea ice cream and slowly walked back to our hotel. All other stops were fine for those with moderate walking ability.

Gion by Night: Culture Performance with Dinner

Kyoto, Japan

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Although we very much enjoyed dinner, in a small restaurant which was open only for our group of about 16, and we enjoyed the small tea ceremony in the garden within the hotel, the cultural show was not a good experience because it was packed with people and the seating was on a flat rather than graduated floor. My kids couldn't see a thing because of the people in front. There were many people standing on the side. The show itself was interesting, touching on several aspects of the culture, but for kids and those who really need to be near the front because of vision or other issues it was not enjoyable. For this type of event with a high school like stage I felt there were entirely too many people in the audience. If you really want to see this show I would suggest buying your own tickets and arriving really early so you can get a seat in front to see what is happening.

Omaha Beach Half-Day Trip from Bayeux

Bayeux, France

My Review

We loved this tour. The guide was extremely informative. It moved along but not too fast. Ages in our group varied from 4 to 82 and everyone was glued to every word. The guide picked us up at our hotel in Bayeux. It was very convenient. We highly recommend this tour.
