This was about what I expected - a very kitschy, touristy experience. Because that was what I expected, I'm glad I did it and I had a good time. The food was fair, but it was pretty cool when they opened the fire pit where the pig had been roasting all day.

Mark, our guide, has an encyclopedic knowledge about every aspect of Hawaii that we could think to ask about - volcanoes, flora and fauna, and cultural history. The lava tube we visited that is off the beaten path was a highlight, and sundown by the caldera with the full moon rising and the venting gases glowing red from the magma below was magical. Be prepared for a long day though, and bring some warm clothes.
