Truly outstanding! I was skeptical at first, but our guide, Tom, was so much fun and very knowledgeable. All of the people on the tour were very friendly and fun-loving.
The tour covers everything that you'll want to see in Berlin and provides excellent background information and historical data. And, just when you think that you can't take in anymore history, it's time to stop at the biergarten for food, beer, and great conversation.
I am a very tough critic when it comes to tours, but this one was absolutely worth the time and money. I would definitely do this again when I return to Berlin.
I'm sorry to say it, but this tour was a terrible waste of time.
We were herded like cattle from one bus to the next to the next and finally left a massive bus station nearly 15 minutes after the tour was supposed to begin. The bus was old, stinky and did not have functional air conditioning.
The tour simply went up and down a few streets in Vienna and then went up to a parking lot overlooking the city. We sat there for 20 minutes - not long enough to get food or explore, but too long to do anything other than look at the view and wait for the bus to leave again.
Once we got to the boat, I was hopeful that the situation would improve. Sadly, the boat was old and overcrowded with absolutely no room on the top deck to sit. We ended up sitting below where it was HOT and uncomfortable. The boat merely went a short distance up the river and canal (spending nearly 25 minutes in a lock alone) and then dropped us off.
Seriously, I felt as if I were being held hostage. I was SO grateful to be set free at the end of this trip. What a waste of time and money.
This tour is interesting and worth doing. Without this tour, we never would have ventured so far out of Zurich. However, be aware that MOST of your day is spent without a guide.
The bus will drop you off at the cog-wheel train station with some tickets and an instruction sheet, and you're on your own until the return bus at 6:00pm. You must navigate up the mountain, to a different train for the return trip, then walk 20 minutes to a gondola, then take the gondola to a bus, then take the bus to a ferry, then walk from the ferry station into Lucerne. Whew! Sounds like a sit-com waiting to happen.
Again, I would still say this tour is worth the time, but be prepared to bring your own guide book and maps in order to make the most of the day.
I was terribly disappointed with this tour. I've been to Heidelberg before, and it's truly a magical, special place. However, this tour was very rushed and unprofessional.
The tour departed nearly 40 minutes late and ended 30 minutes earlier than stated in the description. During the trip, the guide rushed us so much that we never got to spend more than a few moments in any place. When it came time for our "free time" in Heidelberg, there was literally only 30 minutes remaining before the tour was to return to Frankfurt. We had only enough time to walk down one block and see the bridge before we had to return. We even considered paying our own way back so that we could stay on longer, but the train back to Frankfurt would have been another 50 Euros each.
This trip would have been better if they skipped the guide and just offered transportation to and from Heidelberg. My advice to you is to skip this tour and take the train to town on your own. It's a very easy, friendly town that you'll be able to navigate with ease.
