Royal Castle of Linderhof and Oberammergau Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This started off oddly as the Linderhof tour was grouped on the same bus as those going to the Zugspitze, and there were two guides on the tour. At first we dropped the Zugspitze group at a monastery and headed to Linderhoff. We had the most wonderful guide named Uta. If you can get her on your tour, do it. She is not only a very sweet person, she is extremely knowledgeable about everything related to the tour. She made me actually feel like I was getting historical information and stories about where I was going and prepared us nicely for the trip. Despite her being older she climbed with us to the Grotto at Linderhof and the Moorish Pavillion. Obviously, if you combined the Linderhof with Neuschwanstein you missed the Moorish Pavilllion and Grotto. It was worth seeing those, particularly the Grotto. And just having the time to walk the grounds and get great shots of Linderhof from above. Highly recommended.

Neuschwanstein Castle Small Group Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Well, the tour was anything but small. I’m glad we did Neuschwanstein on the full day tour only as I can’t imagine cramming Linderhoffand Oberammeragua on the same day. Mike, our tour guide, was personable and led us via the train on a rainy day to the town. We took the bus up. (thankfully), as it saves time to actually experience more things such as Marien’s Bridge, and after walking down later I realized it was quite a steep incline. Mike was willing to answer any questions and was certainly a tour guide I could recommend. Neuschwanstein is simply breath taking from Marien’s Bridge, and inside the castle, it was also quite incredible (such as the grotto). It’s certainly a place I would revisit as it all seemed to go so quickly, and I’d like more time to explore, but without a doubt, this is one place you must visit. I recommend if you have trouble climbing, take the bus to the top. You can still walk over to Marien’s Bridge for a lovely view. Walk down if you want to see what you missed. Not giving five starts only because the small group was not small.

Salzburg and Lake District Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

We did three Viator tours while in Munich, and this was the worst of the three. The bulk of the problem was the tour guide, Charlie. He seemed to be more interested in dropping us off in Salzburg, and then lecturing us about being back by a certain time or they’d be leaving without us. He gave us no guidance, or information about Salzburg. No maps, not even where the tourist info office was located. We arrived back at the meeting place at the set time, and then we were rushed to a garden where he gave us 5 minutes to take pictures of the flowers. We then went to Lake Wolfgangsee with barely any time to look around. He continued calling us Carlito’s Babies which was irritiating quite a few people. There was one couple that didn’t want to do the optional boat tour. He made them. The boat trip was nice, but he seemed to be in a hurry to beat another boat across the lake. Later, he kept talking to one couple who he told to make sure they at least tip the bus driver. When we left the bus, he sent the driver off the bus and then sat in front where he told people to drop off their tips. I wanted to tip the driver and assumed the money I put down would go to the driver, but I left wondering whether Carlitto had pocketed it all. It left a sour taste in our mouth especially since the other two guides on other tours were personable and helpful. One star for the driver who did a nice job.
