My wife and I arrived about 30 minutes early for our tour near Trajan's Column. Since this was our first Viator Tour, we were apprehensive about the initial meeting. Fortunately, Alex was standing there with his blue shirt and clipboard and he "signed us in" for the tour. He told us to come back in 15 minutes. We walked near Trajan's Market and then returned to find Rebecca, our Tour Guide, and the rest of the tour group waiting. After we all introduced ourselves, Rebecca immediately started the tour with a description of Trajan's Column, Roman Forum, Victor Emmanuel Memorial, Capitoline Hill, and Venezia Plazza while walking toward the Cordonata Stairway leading up to the Campidoglio Plaza on Capitoline Hill. After a detailed explanation of the history of Michelangelo's designing of the Plaza and the Museum Buildings, Rebecca took us into the Museum and showed us the masterpieces and explained the highlights and history of each work - with ample time to ask whatever questions we may have. She also showed us the magnificent vistas of the Roman Forum and the rest of Rome from the Museum and the Memorial Building. The tour was an extremely interesting and informative experience, and Rebecca deserves all the excellent reviews and praises she has received on the Viator Website. James S.
My wife and I met Samantha, our Tour Guide, in front of the entrance to the Borghese Museum in very heavy rain. Alex also was there with his clipboard, so I knew everything would be all right (i.e., I had met him in the morning for the Capitoline Tour). There were two tour groups meeting at the same time, but everything proceeded in a very orderly manner despite the rainy conditions. Upon entering the Museum, Samantha immediately took us to see the four masterpieces of sculpture by Bernini and gave us a detailed explanation of the background and highlights of each work. We then proceeded to see the other famous sculpture and artwork (Caravaggio, Raphael, Titian, etc.) in the Museum, and Samantha gave us a comprehensive background of each piece. She also explained the important role of the Borghese Family in collecting these masterpieces and displaying them in the Villa and protecting them from confiscation by Napoleon Bonarparte. It was a very informative and rewarding experience. Kudos to Alex and Samantha for assemblying our group in the heavy rain "without a hitch". James S.
