Bratislava Day Trip from Vienna

Vienna, Austria

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

A nice little walking tour of the castle and the city, with an included lunch. (Not particularly gourmet, but not bad, either.) Our local guide, Andrej, was knowledgeable and spoke good English. We took the optional high-speed catamaran back to the city, which provided a lot of picturesque views of the Danube.

Budapest Day Trip from Vienna

Vienna, Austria

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

Budapest is a gorgeous city, and this tour hit a lot of the high points. If the local guide had spoken louder (or turned up the sound system on the bus) this trip would have rated a lot higher. My mother (who is hard of hearing) asked if she could move closer to the guide, but unfortunately they couldn't accommodate her. She couldn't make out any of it, and even I had to strain to hear what the guide had to say. Part of the problem was that the bus was divided into different languages; we ended up sitting at the very back of the English section, and the Italian-speaking guide spoke louder than the English-speaking guide. There was a fixed-price menu for 50 euros; my mother and I got the goulash for 5 euros and found it excellent, but we couldn't justify the price of the whole meal. We had no trouble finding a more reasonably-priced place to eat when we were turned loose on the Pest side of the city.

Vienna Woods and Mayerling Half Day Trip

Vienna, Austria

My Review

This trip would be worth it just for the Seegrotte. "Undersea lake" doesn't do it justice; it's a flooded cave, with many different spaces. Bring a sweater, though; it is a little chilly! The tour also goes through some gorgeous countryside and the town of Baden, as well as a monastery and a church, which show different architectural styles. There's a lot to see in such a short trip! Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke English very well and clearly (important for my mother, who is hard of hearing.) Of the three trips we went on during our stay in Vienna, this was my favorite, as well as being the least expensive. A great value!
