Murano, Burano and Torcello Half-Day Sightseeing Tour

Venice, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

We did this tour on our second day in Venice and would definitely recommend it. Yes, as other reviewers indicate, you do not spend that much time on each location. About 45 minutes on each. But that was actually ok. We viewed this more as a an "introductory sampler" to the three islands.

On Murano, the glass demonstration was really interesting and the showroom had some lovely pieces (albeit somewhat pricy for some).

On Torcello, it seemed like a long walk into the city center for very limited sightseeing.

On Burano ... what can we say? It was absolutely beautiful. So picturesque and lovely. The lace making demonstration was a bit less than we might have hoped for, but it was okay. This would be a lovely island to spend a day in and of itself!

The guide on the boat, honestly, added little value. She provided some information on the sights as we were seeing them, but it was difficult to hear her and, as she was sharing the information in four languages, it was a bit rushed.

Overall, a really good tour.

Skip the Line: Venice in One Day Including Boat Tour

Venice, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

What a great tour (which is really two tours in one)!!

The walking tour of Venice provided a great introduction to the city, including viewing the beauty of St. Mark's. Our guide, Maria, was excellent. Very informed and entertaining throughout our walking tour.

The boat tour (and this is a boat, not a gondola) was also great. Our guide, Sergio, was high energy, very knowledgeable and highly entertaining. Although there was some overlap with information we received and sights we saw in the walking tour, the boat tour gave us a great view of a number of sights covering a much wider area.

Having a break between the walking tour and the boat tour was great. It gave us time to have a wonderfully relaxing lunch near the grand canal by the Rialto Bridge, as well as meandering through a number of the streets of the city.

We highly recommend this tour.

Cinque Terre Small Group Day Trip from Florence

Florence, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

What an amazing day! We HIGHLY recommend this tour! This is such a beautiful area of Italy and if you don't have time to spend days in this area, at least having this introduction to the region is wonderful. It is a LOT to see in one day, but it is definitely worth seeing! Our guide, Tiberio, was great. He was highly knowledgeable and entertaining during the drive to/from Cinque Terre, as well as during the tour. He also made a point of showing us great photo locations and even made a point of stopping at several points during the drive, so that we could get pictures. The only suggestion we would make is to make sure that the speaker system for the guide is working in the van to/from Cinque Terre. Ours didn't work, so those of us in the back of the van really couldn't hear much of Tiberio's commentary during the drive.

Florence Super Saver: Best of Florence Walking Tour, Accademia Gallery, Uffizi Gallery and Florence Duomo

Florence, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

This is really two tours in one: The Best of Florence Walking Tour (including the Accademia Gallery) followed by the Uffizi Gallery Tour. Both tours are really great! However, this is a LOT of walking to do in one day, so be prepared to be exhausted by the end of the day!

Best of Florence Walking Tour (including the Accademia Gallery): This was an awesome tour! Our guide, Mary Grace, was great! Intelligent, knowledgeable and highly entertaining! She did a great job introducing us to the wonders of Florence leading up to the amazing view of David at the Accademia. We would rate this a 5 out of 5.

Uffizi Gallery Tour: This was a really good tour. We cannot imagine how one could really appreciate all of the wonders that are in this Gallery on your own in a full day (much less just a few hours). Our guide, Helma (sp?), was very informative about the styles of the paintings and the history of the art (and the artists) that we were seeing. We would rate this tour a 4 out of 5.

Florence City Hop-on Hop-off Tour

Florence, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

We did this tour on the first afternoon that we got to Florence as a basic "introduction to Florence". And we actually wound up doing both Linea B (the long version) followed by Linea A (the shorter version) later the same day. The tour was beautiful, but the narration was quite limited. We would have like to have learned more about the city, as we were driving through it. For the price, this is a really good introduction to the city, so we do recommend this as a way to get acclimated to the city overall.

Skip the Line: Vatican Museums Walking Tour including Sistine Chapel, Raphael's Rooms and St Peter's

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

A must do tour! I can't imagine trying to see and make sense of everything there is to see in the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peters on your own. Our guide, Angela, did a phenomenal job of relating the history of the art and people to the history of Italy and Christianity overall. She was very knowledgeable and entertaining, too.

We upgraded to the early morning (8:10 AM) tour, so that we got in before the crowds. We highly recommend this, as it gets VERY crowded once it opens to the public.

My Review

This was an AWESOME tour. Our guide, Claudia, was wonderful. Very intelligent, knowledgeable and entertaining. We are very glad we paid extra to do the early morning tour, which includes the underground tour. Well worth it! We definitely recommend this tour!

Note: I would recommend arriving even earlier than they recommend (we arrived about 30 minutes before the tour). The early morning tour appeared to have been oversold and some people were, unfortunately, not able to participate.

Best of Rome Walking Tour: Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Trevi Fountain

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was a late addition to our agenda and we are so glad we did this. Although it is a LOT of walking, the tour provided a wonderful overview of so many of the sites of Rome (Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc.). Our guide, Natasha, was excellent! Very knowledgeable about the sites and history of the city. We did this tour late in the afternoon, which is a lovely time to be walking around the city. Highly recommend!

Rome Hop-on Hop-off Double Decker Bus Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

We did the hop-on hop-off bus tour our first day in Rome after flying overnight. It was a great way to see the highlights of Rome and to begin to get an appreciation for the wonders of the city. Not a replacement for tours of the specific attractions in the city, but more of a "quick introduction".
