Salzburg was nice, and we had a fair of time to walk around, do some shopping, and get some lunch. The Lake District and boat trip on this tour really made the trip though! The boat ride did cost extra (our tour guide collected the money on the bus), but it was absolutely worth it!
Our tour guide (we didn't catch his name unfortunately) was probably the best tour guide we've ever had. He was knowledgeable and genuinely wanted each person to enjoy the day. He even came around the bus on the way back to Munich to answer any questions anyone had. He went above and beyond.
Great tour if you want to visit the castles as they are not easy to get to on your own without renting a car. Each castle was special in it's own way - Linderhof for it's incredibly decorated rooms and Neuschwanstein for it's breathtaking views. Be warned that you cannot take pictures inside either castle. We bought a couple postcards to show family and friends. Also know that the tours of the castles are pretty short. Not more than 30 minutes each. The hike to Neuschwanstein is a bit of a challenge, but there are carriage or bus options. Walk to the bridge overlooking Neuschwanstein if possible! The views are amazing!
Oberammergau was a neat stop between the castles, but there wasn't a lot of time to walk around or shop too much.
Our tour guide this day was ok. She was stern, but this was because we were on such a tight schedule.
One more thing to note is that they tried to get everyone to eat lunch at a restaurant where the bus let us out at Neuschwanstein. We think there was probably an agreement with the hotel/restaurant to let the bus park there while they got lunch customers. It was pretty expensive though so we left and found a food stand/picnic table area with decent food (great potato salad!). Talking with others later, we are glad we didn't stay at the restaurant.
