Girona, Figueres and Dali Museum Day Trip from Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain
My Rating

Girona is a wonderful little city to wander through, reminded us in many ways of Genoa. Nice and quiet after the hustle and bustle of Barcelona! Figueres/Dali was a must-see (just try to avoid the crush of the other tour groups!) Nice to just wander thru the musuem on our own, but make sure you see everything by following the numbers, we almost missed the "Marilyn" room! Tour guide Arnette, was very friendly and helpful, spoke English fairly well (didn't know it was her first tour until the end!)

Nickolas and Benjamin, our driver and pilot, were as friendly and helpful as could be, spoke great English and were very patient and explanatory. Incredible views, perfect sunrise weather!! Make sure you watch how they toast your sandwich over the balloon burner after the flight!

Barcelona Hop-on Hop Off Tour: East to West Route
Barcelona, Spain
My Rating

We only had the east-west tour (one of two routes) and could not use the other, but discovered after we got there that another company had three routes and their tickets allowed use of all three. Would have been much more convenient to see Montjuic (quite a hike!) - so I'd recommend the other company's tour instead.

What a great way to get around! Segway is a must-do wherever you are! Saw a couple of places up close that we couldn't see from any tour bus!

Madrid Sightseeing Tour and Bullfight at Las Ventas Bullring
Madrid, Spain
My Rating

The tour description was a little misleading, we thought it was a tour of the palace interior followed by the bullfight, but it was just another bus ride through the city (which we'd already done). Opted off of the bus and just went directly to the bullfight. Not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach, it is a gory, bloody event, the bull is "tortured" before he is finally killed (yes, the bulls die at the end) but the ceremony and tradition surrounding it are rich and the arena and crowd excitement was not unlike being at a big football game; so I would say it is something not to be missed. However, what is it with the cigar smokers? there must have been at least 3 within 20 seats of us that stunk to high heaven, and one of our travellers has asthma, so the smell was not pleasant at all, and combined with the gore, tended to make us feel slightly nauseated towards the end.

Madrid Super Saver: Madrid Illuminations Evening Tour and Flamenco Show at Torres Bermejas
Madrid, Spain
My Rating

Previous reviews about this tour being confusing held true. They combined several different "groups" with different timings together, so the directions/instructions and tickets they were passing out were indeed confusing, and the guide was not so good with English. We ended up getting to the Torres Bermejas about 10 minutes after the show had started, and were taken up to a high room off to the side, which was too warm and stuffy and arranged such that we had difficulty seeing what was left of the show; then, we waited at least 20 to 25 minutes before being served our drink. The show is definitely worth seeing, especially the male dancer at the end, but I'd recommend just booking the show itself separately and skipping this "tour". I can't answer for how the food is at the restaurant, since we didn't have the meal.
