Zaanse Schans Windmills, Marken and Volendam Half-Day Trip from Amsterdam

My Review: Very enjoyable half day trip, even with the weather not cooperating. Volendam is a lovely town with nice shops and restaurants. Cheese factory and windmills gave a definite Dutch flavor to the excursion. For a short, half-day trip, this would be hard to beat.

Bruges Day Trip from Amsterdam

My Review: We were on the Antwerp/Brussels excursion but because of demonstrations in Brussels we had to go to Bruges instead, so we never got to Ghent. Bruges was very picturesque and quaint. According to the driver of the carriage that took us around town, they thank the Canadians for saving their city from the Germans in WWII. A long day, but worth it!

Brussels and Antwerp Day Trip from Amsterdam

My Review: I had forgotten how beautiful Brussels is. I had remembered it from thirty years ago as being a dull, gray city but it either got a fresh coat of paint since then or the old memory is starting to go. We ended up there on Saturday and the square was packed. It was likely the first really nice weekend of the year and that diminished the enjoyment, so go during the week if you can. I think you'd have a much better time, however, the guide stated that weekday trips often ran into traffic jams, so I guess there are positives and negatives either way.

Keukenhof Gardens Day Trip, Amsterdam Canal Ride and Van Gogh Museum

My Review: If you only get to Holland once, make sure it is in the two months that Keukenhof Gardens are open! This was truly the highlight of our trip. It is even more beautiful than the pictures. We almost went back to see if any more flowers had opened. GO! GO! GO!

Heidiland and Liechtenstein Tour from Zurich: Two Countries in One Day

My Review: I enjoyed Vaduz and the drive there. The guide, was a very sweet, kindly man. Heidiland was a disappointment!
