I loved seeing the Budda however I feel the day trip in itself was a waste of time. Just get the cable car straight to the island instead of the ferry ride and give the beach and the smelly fishing village a miss. Even the poms weren't impressed with the patch of sand that passed as a beach we stopped at for 15 mins to take photos of.

An interesting day! Worth doing. Lunch lovely at the monastary and the old city and church ruins great. Portuguese tarts to die for mmmm!
