Riviera Maya, Mexico
A very well put together trip. We re-confirmed our booking locally in our BlueBay Esmeralda (Playa del Carmen) resort with the Olympus Tours rep who made the necessary phone calls to book our pickup with local excursion operators. Our transfer to the departure point was spot on time and made a couple of pickups at other hotels along the way.
Our tour guide (Martín) on the main coach to Chichen Itza was hilarious and kept us informed and entertained throughout. A crew of 3 guides/hosts provided us with a nice coffee and sweet roll after boarding the main coach, then kept us topped up with soft drinks water or beer throughout the journey.
Swimming in the Cenote was amazing experience for the rest stop on the way to Chichen Itza. The buffet lunch at a local Mexican restaurant was lovely and food to please everyone. The Chichen Itza site itself was an amazing place to see, our walking tour with our guide (Martín) was very interesting and informative. We also stopped at a historic cathedral in a small town on the way back to our resort.
Be sure to take sunglasses, plenty of suncream and maybe a hat as it was baking hot, full sun and no wind when we walked around the Chichen Itza site. The coach crew provided bottled water to take round with us which was essential.
Also remember to take your swimming kit/towel if you wish to swim in the Cenote and some cash to buy a drink at the buffet and souvenirs in the shops you will see at the rest stops if you want any. There are plenty of sellers dotted around the Chichen Itza site selling hand crafted goods, haggling is essential.
