It was an enjoyable tour of the city as we had only one day in Frankfurt. The bus driver did not inform us that the bus tour took two different routes as he could not speak very much English. We found out by accident after hopping off at the Galerie shopping district and hopped onto another bus only to discover that the second bus took a different route from the earlier bus we were on. If one were to study the guide map given out when you board the bus, you would notice that there are two different colored routes marked out, one in Green and another in Red. We ended up riding the second bus for another complete round trip which showed us another interesting side of the city. The audio guide was good and the earphone jack sockets were working. Contrary to the starting time stated in our voucher, the bus service began at 0930 hours in summer and not 1000 hours as indicated in the voucher. Overall, it was a very good experience of seeing the "dull and uninteresting" city of Frankfurt as is often said of Frankfurt, especially the twin mirrored glass towers of Deutsche Bank sometimes referred to as Debit and Credit. We found the overall tour to be very interesting although the city is not as interesting as other German cities that we visited on this trip like Munich and Berlin.
This tour is only worth doing if it falls within the blooming period of the tulips in the garden. The visit to the gardens was nice and pleasant but was marred by rain several times. The downside of the package was with the Canal Cruise operator. The female booth staffs insisted that we had to register at least an hour before we took the tour even though there was no queue at the pier. We could not understand the reason for this policy. As we were booked on other tour packages, we could not register ourselves in advance in case of delays in our other tours which was what happened to our Volendam and windmill tour. We finally had to delay our train departure to return to Frankfurt on our last day in Amsterdam by taking the 1st boat at 0930 hours. Again, the timing on our voucher incorrectly stated that the 1st boat was 1000 hours just as was the case on our vouchers for Hop on Hop off tour vouchers in the other German cities and Amsterdam. Viator should be more accurate in the timings for each season of the year. This will allow tourists to better plan and maximize their enjoyment.
This is a trip worth making. On the way to Linderhof and Neuschwanstein, the scenery of the German countryside is astounding. In comparison, Linderhof has more to offer than Neuschwanstein. Linderhof is elaborately finished whilst Neuschwanstein is more of just a castle. The in-house guide at Linderhof was much better than that at Neuschwanstein and I guess our impression of Linderhof was thus much better. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the trip very much.
We purchased the Hop=on Hop=off tour with Canal cruise package. There was confusion as to the time of the first bus. Our voucher stated that the first bus was 1000 hours but we found out later that it was 0930 hours. Locating the "office" was a big challenge as it turned out to be one of the Hop-on Hop-off bus and the bus was parked at a street corner which was quite difficult to know that it was the "office". Viator should change the times for each season of the year and be more specific about the "office". The route taken by the bus gave a comprehensive view of the city and what it has to offer. As there are many places to hop-off and on again, it would be better to ride one round trip and then hop-off on the second round to better plan sighseeing. Overall, this is the best Hop-on Hop-off tour that we enjoyed during our holiday in Germany.
