NYC to DC? Skip the train and take the bus
Travel Recommendation
Location: New York City
My Recommendation Tip:
There are several new bus services between NYC and Baltimore, Washington DC and Philadelphia. The buses are new, fast, wifi enabled and generally just take a little more time than the train. The best part - the costs. My recent bus from Baltimore to New York City was $12 one way. The train: $103. Bus takes 3.5 hours, the train 2 hours 45 minutes. That's a deal. Check out Bolt Bus, MVP Bus or Mega Bus

Brussels Beer Tasting Tour
Tour / Activity
Location: Brussels, Belgium
My Review: A great and fun tour to take in Brussels. Belgian beer has always been a favorite, but with so many choices, it is hard to find the best - and the ones that I would not find at home. Our guide (the owner of the company) was very amusing and full of a lot of stories and tales about beer, Brussels and life in general. This was a very fun way to pass an afternoon and I met other fellow travellers, too. Caution - pace yourself: even though you are just tasting a few beers, these can sneak up on you! (in a good way, of course) I would do this tour again!

Singapore Private Departure Transfer: Hotel to Airport
Tour / Activity
Location: Singapore, Singapore
My Review: Excellent! The car was scheduled to pick me up at 5:40 from my hotel. The company called to reconfirm the time the day before and at 5:39 and 25 seconds they pulled in! Just like my arrival transfer, this was a really nice, late model BMW with a super driver. It's great to end the trip in style!

New York Helicopter Flight: Grand Island
Tour / Activity
Location: New York City, New York
My Review: Our helicopter flight was the highlight of our NY trip. Lovely staff at the heliport, a fantastic commentary by our delightful & knowledgeable pilot Dave and a bird’s eye view of the whole of Manhattan and surrounds made this an amazing experience. You HAVE to do this once in your life and when you do it should be with these guys!

Private Transfer: Delhi Hotel to Airport
Tour / Activity
Location: Delhi, India
My Review: The driver and guide were exactly on time. The transfer took a short 25 minutes. We were told to leave early as the transfer could take up to 90 min depending on traffic. Ask at your hotel so that you don't have to sit at the airport too long

Old Delhi Half Day Small Group Tour
Tour / Activity
Location: Delhi, India
My Review: We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The guide (Mohsin) was excellent and we felt that we learned so much about Old Delhi that we would not get from any guidebook or touring alone. All of our questions were answered and Mohsin took us to places where we would not have ventured in on our own. Note - this tour can be 'intense' - the streets are crowded and it can be very hot. Make sure you have plenty of water, sunscreen, patience and a good sense of humor.

Taj Mahal
Attraction
Location: New Delhi
My Review: Of course, the Taj Mahal is a must see in Agra, or even in all of India. The detail of the architecture is absolutely stunning. It is said it is perhaps the most perfect constructed building and it is hard to dispute. Remembering the 'technology' available when the Taj was built makes it even that much more spectacular. You can view and enter the Taj on your own, but I HIGHLY recommended getting a guide to point out some of the finer details. We used: Mohd. Shahnawaz Khan, who was excellent! http://www.ourexplorer.com/tour-guide-mohd-shahnawaz--khan-8051.aspx If you are not staying in the immediate vicinity of the Taj, your driver (or tuk-tuk) will stop a short way down the road and you will take an electric bus or even donkey cart up to the entrance gate. Entry fees are high by Indian standards (750 rupees or roughly US$18), but money well spent

Baltimore - Brewer's Art Belgian Brewery and Restaurant
Travel Recommendation
Location: Maryland
My Recommendation Tip:
The Brewer's Art is just a few blocks from my house and my favorite place to visit for Happy Hour. They brew their own beer on site, many in the Belgian style - with 'classics' such as OZZY and RESSURECTION. Each style has a unique class. The bartenders are extremely friendly and the big open windows give great light out to charles street. The crowd varies by time, from after work Hopkins and office workers, to bike messengers to a younger (hipper?) crowd that congregates downstairs in the dungeon bar late in the evenings. The restaurant in back is in the parlor rooms of this beautifully restored mansion and serves up some of the best food in town. It is also fun to wind your way through a loud and fun crowd and then be in the quiet, dark pannelled restaurant. Check it out - I may even be there! Ken Frohling - Viator

Helsinki outer island and Harbor by boat
Travel Recommendation
Location: Helsinki
My Recommendation Tip: The highlight of any trip to Helsinki is a cruise around Helsinki's Harbor. Getting out on the water shows you just how closely the city is tied to the sea. Finland has over 3,000 miles of coastline and Helsinki is dotted with hundreds of islands and coves. Several companies offer boat tours during the warm months. You can likely show up and find the best deal. We used our Helsinki Card to use public transit to get to the square, plus for several various discounts nearby.

Marfa, TX - Way off the path, but worth the trip!
Travel Recommendation
Location: Texas
My Recommendation Tip: Marfa is a small artist community in the Texas Big Bend area. It is 3+ hours from the nearest commercial airport (Midland/Odessa!) and 6+ hours from major cities like Austin or San Antonio - but is great for a few days side trip. Some must dos: 1. Food Shark - Marfa. A food truck with incredible food. It parks in the center of town each day. 2. Marfa Lights - the mysterious lights can be seen in the horizon on some nights. There are all kinds of theories as to what these might REALLY be, but if you can seem them, just make them anything you want. I vote Aliens. 3. Chinati Foundation - The museum and gallery space of artist Donald Judd. This is what really started the whole art scene here. Mr. Judd bought an abandoned army base and started working. Artists from all around followed and the town of just 2,000 people has about 20 different art galleries. 4. Big Bend National Park - it's a bit of a drive from Marfa, but the scenery is spectacular. Accommodation is a bit limited, but you can look at vacation/home rentals on sites like VRBO or HomeAway. There are also several great restaurants. Best of all - the weather was very HOT and dry during the day and cold at night.

My Favorite Restaurants in DC
Travel Recommendation
Location: Washington DC
My Recommendation Tip: Living in Baltimore, I like to take the train to DC once a month or so to try out some of the great restaurants. Here are some of my favorites: 1. Zaytinya - Greek, Lebanese, Turkish Mezze - or small plates. If you go with a small group, you can sample a bunch of different dishes. The wine list is almost all Greek - which I was not familiar with, but the waiter was a great help in selecting something good. www.zaytina.com 2. Ten Pehn - Asian fusion cuisine, but a bit more upscale. Located at 10th and Pennsylvania (get it?) this place is always good. Great Martinis, too! 3. Marcel's - Belgian / French. A bit more expensive, but always good. If you are going to a Kennedy Center performance, this restaurant also has a shuttle to take you there an back. Check out their site to confirm times 4. Blue Duck Tavern - in the Grand Hyatt hotel. EXCELLENT. They call it simple American cooking, but it is not anything I can make at home. This is always a nice splurge.

Los Angeles Arrival Transfer: to Los Angeles Hotels
Tour / Activity
Location: Los Angeles, California
My Review: Be prepared for a long trip. The shuttle can make many stops, so depending on whether you are first or last can determine how long it takes. However, for 1/4 the price of a taxi it was worth it.

Baipai Thai Cooking School Class in Bangkok
Tour / Activity
Location: Bangkok, Thailand
My Review: LOVED IT! A great tour for the beginning or experienced cook! The instructor and cook were both very informative and fun. The recipes were excellent and the class was the right mix of 'hands-on' cooking and demonstration. And the food at the end was fantastic!
