Singapore Jurong Bird Park Tour

Singapore, Singapore

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review
I thought the value of this tour was good -- hotel pick-up, transportation to the bird park, admission, guided tour, tram ticket, etc. However, the follow through was less great -- we were rushed through our first stop, had trouble getting our group onto very full trams to get to the first bird show of the morning, and there wasn't time to see very much before it was time to go. I stayed after the tour left and got to have a pretty good feel for the park. It was easy to catch an express bus outside on the main road straight to the MRT station. The aviaries are particularly nice -- the other enclosures are a bit cagey for my taste.

Singapore Round-Island Tour with Changi Prison, Kranji War Memorial and Gardens by the Bay

Singapore, Singapore

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review
I enjoyed the over-the-top theming of Haw Par Villa, though the tour only officially visits one small area. The rest of the tour was less than stellar, very WWII oriented. Lunch was good, though conversation among the other tour members was a bit awkward and stilted.

Singapore Shop and Eat Heartlands Trail Tour

Singapore, Singapore

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review
Skip it. The highlights were learning about the public housing system and eating a spicy floss bun and laksa. Other than the public housing information, you can get the food on your own, and you can certainly do shopping on your own -- there are no shortages of places to shop. And the ones on this trip are far short of spectacular.

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review
I went twice. 11am on a Tuesday -- no line, great weather, ready to get off after about twenty minutes. There's just not that much to look at in Singapore. Also tried for sunset on a Sunday -- forget it! The line was over an hour long, just to security, then there were two serpentine lines after that we didn't get on until well after dark. The lights were pretty, but again, about 20 minutes was enough. If you've never done one of these huge ferris wheels, it's worth it once. If you've done it before, skip it and go to the top of the Swissotel instead.

Kampong Glam and Sultan Mosque Morning Walking Tour

Singapore, Singapore

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
This was a super cheap program and really good! You get all kinds of behind-the-scenes information that you wouldn't get on your own. The only thing that would be better is the addition of lunch at the end of the tour, but I do love food!

Singapore Zoo Breakfast with Orangutans

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
There's no way this trip can do justice to the zoo in such a short amount of time. I stayed the whole day and took the bus to the MRT back to town very easy -- and cheap. If you have kids, there's also an AMAZING kids section be sure to go!

Admiral Cheng Ho Singapore Harbour Cruise

5 star rating: Highly Recommended

Even though the weather was less than stellar, the boat had ample indoor and outdoor space. It's beautiful, be sure to check out all the detailing, and the high tea was delicious!

Singapore Peranakan Trail Food Tasting Tour

Singapore, Singapore

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
This was an excellent tour! We were shown the highlights at the Spice Garden and the Peranakan Museum and given insight that wasn't on any of the plaques. I was able to make a pork-rice dumpling with some assistance and then to eat a cooked one. The food was good and something I would not have tried on my own, but would love to try again! We learned about the Peranakan bead work and saw samples, amazing! We also saw examples of embroidery at really high quality, and a traditional dress I modeled. It was a morning well spent!
