Prague Vltava River Afternoon Tea Cruise

Prague, Czech Republic

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

This cruise was supposed to be a 2 hour cruise which did not start well. We had been instructed to meet out side the tour office at 3.15pm. When we presented at 3.15 the tour office told us it was going to be another 10 minutes. We eventually left at 3.50pm for the boat (yes we still hadn't got to the boat yet). On the bus to the boat our tour guide gave us a commentary on the buildings we were passing however he was difficult to understand and I found myself nodding just to keep him happy. Once at the pier we waited until 4.10pm before finally casting off. Our complimentary afternoon tea was waiting for us, already set out on the tables. I waited for my coffee before eating the apple strudel. By the time the coffee came and I had finished my strudel we were pulling into port. The time was 5pm. That's right this was our 2 hour afternoon tea river cruise. At least our guide was nice enough to walk us back to the main plaza and give us the history of some of the buildings on the way. This however was his gift to us and NOT part of the cruise. My wife had told me how nice a cruise she had on her last visit to Prague, cruising up the river through the locks. This was a real let down and the only blemish on our enjoyable visit to Praha.

Small-Group Prague Sightseeing Tour by Vintage Car

Prague, Czech Republic

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

The car was great and the seats comfortable, however you have to make sure you get the one with seating for 2 with plenty of leg room. Our tour guide was very knowledgable which made the fact that we could not hear a lot of what he was saying disappointing. It is simple physics that someone talking with their back to you is going to be hard to hear. Not that we wanted him to turn around, I am a huge fan of safe driving. A simple microphone with some speakers in the back would do wonders. Apart from this it was a fun way to see the highlights of the city. One tip is not to sit back and let the driver do all the talking. I found we were driving past some places that were not being commented on. Ask all the questions you want, we found our driver more than obliging in answering all my inane questions.

Berlin City Hop-on Hop-off Tour

Berlin, Germany

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

An easier way of getting to all the sights around Berlin you will not find. The buses were clean and arrived at regular intervals. As with most things German they can get a little anal about the little things so make sure you are waiting at the approved bus stops only with your ticket ready. As long as you follow the rules it is easy.

Munich City Hop-on Hop-off Tour

Munich, Germany

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

Our worst experience for hop-on hop-off so far. The bus driver did not know the meaning of smooth driving. Stop, go, stop, go and side to side as he drove at breakneck speed through the streets of Munich. Forget about getting any photos. To top it off we had a live tour guide so everything was translated into three different languages (it was so much easier to plug into the recorded guide in Berlin). We had also had this tour guide on our trip to castle Neuschwanstein and found her to be difficult to hear and her English grammar made it difficult to follow what she was saying (I understood the words but had difficulty making sense of them). She was very soft spoken and had a tendency to waffle on and get side tracked. We went past many major landmarks without commentary.

Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

The tone of the tour was set early with our guide telling us that if we were late to the bus for the return leg we would be left behind. This was re-enforced on our way to Linderhof castle (the whole way). Our tour of Linderhoff castle was interesting and I would have loved to have explored the grounds more but I had to get back to the bus. In the end we were 5 minutes late because 1. I had to use the toilet (no toilet on the coach) and 2. The driver had moved the coach while we were touring the castle. We were met by a very disappointed tour guide. Our tour of Neuschwanstein castle was very informative however this guide was from the castle. I found our tour guide from the coach condescending and rigid beyond belief. Imagine our horror when she turned out to be our tour guide for our Munich hop on hop off tour! The whole experience was rushed and is one of the reasons why I hate touring in groups.
