Budapest City Walking Tour

Budapest, Hungary

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

Nearly missed the walk as although we were waiting in the designated place the guide did not identify herself or had a list of clienrts to refer to (unlike our guide in Amsterdam) The young, very fit guide set a cracking pace and we struggled to keep up in the 40 degree heat. We "lost" several of us on the way either to heat exhaustion or simply getting lost as she did not keep tabs of the number in the group. The area covered, commentary and rail trips would have provided a good introduction to Budapest but was spoled by the lack of consideration of the guide.

Puszta Great Plains and Kecskemet Day Trip from Budapest

Budapest, Hungary

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

We were collected by taxi from our hotel and taken to the tour office where we met the guide and fellow travellers. The weather in Budapest had been over 40 degrees for a few days and the air conditioning in the van was defective. Our very eccentric older female guide provided commentary in German and then repeated it in English (very tedious). She became quite cross with us if we were a minute late returning from toilet breaks and muttered to herself. The visit to Kecskemet was really just a lour of a couple of churches and time for a drink and could be omitted from this tour. The horse show was excellent displaying the beauty of the horses and the skill of the riders. On a cooler day the 3 hot course lunch would be delicious but it was difficult to enjoy in the heat. We were dropped off a couple of blocks from our hotel rather then returned to it as was indicated in the advertising.

Amsterdam Walking Tour

Amsterdam, Netherlands

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Our guide, Terry, provided a wealth of knowledge about the city. We meandered through the streets with interesting anecdotes supplied. We also had a welcome refreshment break partway through the walk (at our expense). Highly recommended.

Amsterdam Canal Bus Hop On Hop Off Day Pass and Heineken Experience

Amsterdam, Netherlands

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Canal bus is an interesting way to see parts of Amsterdam however to call it a 24 hour pass is inaccurate as it does not commence until after 10.00 and finishes at 17.00. The Heineken Experience was fantastic with innovative interactive and experiential displays to demonstrate the brewing process, samples of 4 different beers and 2 large glasses at the conclusions. Lots of very happy people!! Oh, by the way the brewery is half way between canal bus stops so quite a walk required.

Zaanse Schans Windmills, Marken and Volendam Half-Day Trip from Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Interesting drive through the countryside however the stops were clearly a sales promotion. Has anyone every seen the cheese being made? Although some equipment was there we were "Just too late" for the demonstration and watched a video. The tastings took place in the souvenier shop and was packed with several bus loads of tourists desperate to grab their free samples. At the clog factory the demonstration consisted of the first two steps of machine made clogs which again took place in the shop and lasted around 10 minutes to allow us to purchase the quite expensive merchandise.
