Small-group WWI Somme Battlefields Day Trip from Paris

Paris, France

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

This was basically transportation to a variety of Australian and Canadian sites...less so a tour. The only commentary was only while driving and even that was read off some papers. The guide was 40 miniutes late picking us up and then was rushed all day, giving us 15 minutes in some cases, to explore and take in the sites. In some sites our small group expressed wanting to stay longer, but no. We appreciated the variety of the stops, and clearly we would never have been able to rent a car and successfully visit them all, but this "tour" left us thinking we over paid for a taxi, not a tour. If you're already knowledgable about all the sites, and have no questions about them then this tour is for you. If you're like me however, and have only an interest and very little background in WW1 history, you'll leave this "tour" disappointed.

Romantic Road, Rothenburg and Harburg Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

First of all, the town of Rothenburg does not disappoint, neither did the unexpected visit to Oberammergau or Harsburg Castle (which had a fantastic tour provided for extra cost). Both are picturesque, beautiful German towns that seem plucked right from the pages of a story book. You have approximately 3 hours in Rothenburg and 40 minutes in Oberammergau, and an hour in Harsburg, not long but such is life on these bus tours. The tour was easy to find, though missing its sign out front so there was some confusion finding the right bus as there are 3-4 leaving the meeting point at the same time, so make sure you ask. My only complaint about this tour was that our guide spoke very little about the history and significance of either town...she was more concerned with interrupting the sleep of some passengers! She would actually say, "I'm turning off now so that we don't wake the sleepy heads." Ahhh - what? What about those of us who are awake...and taking a tour?? I disembarked knowing not much more about the stops than I had before I left. Luck of the tour-guide-draw I guess.

Royal Castles of Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This tour was fantastic. King Ludwig is such an interesting figure and I left this tour wanting to know more about him. The Castles are brilliant, if not somewhat bizarre, and the tour provided just enough commentary for you to feel like you knew where you were headed. This tour is long, but worth it.

Tuscany in One Day Sightseeing Tour

Florence, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
The best part of our 2 week trip to Italy. We have nothing bad to say about this trip, or our tour guide Sandra who was an excellent tour guide and tour facilitator. She was informative, funny and straight to the point when it came to keeping us on schedule. The tour in Sienna was great, the lunch at the Tuscan farm was out of this world and San Gimignano provided the perfect after dinner walk. Pisa was a bit of a bore, but we were glad the tour included it nonetheless. I highly highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to see as much of Tuscany as they can in one day!! The only minor glitch we had was that the meeting place indicated by the taxi stands at the train station wasn't where the tour directors were meeting. They were done further with the tour buses. No big deal if you're there early enough to look around.
