Limerick, Cliffs of Moher, Burren and Galway Bay Rail Tour from Dublin

Dublin, Ireland

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
A fantastic day trip from Dublin! We saw so much of the Ireland countryside as well as a little time in the cities of Limerick and Galway. The Cliffs of Moher and Burren were amazing! It was great to take the train as it had free wifi and more comfortable than a long coach ride. Lunch was in a cute little village and the pub we ate at was delicious. Our guide was lovely, really covered relevant history well and chaperoned us nicely through the day with plenty of free time on our own to enjoy and explore.

Awesome experience! Really well run operation, I felt super prepared and safe while climbing the bridge. It was an unforgettable experience to be on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, there were spectacular 360 views of all of Sydney. We had a great guide who was really knowledgeable about the area we were seeing and encouraged questions. Also, I learned a ton about the bridge itself, which was really interesting, and interesting to see the details of the bridge construction up close as we climbed it.

3- or 4-Day Everglades Kayaking and Camping Tour

My Rating

My Review
An amazing tour of the Everglades! We wanted to really get off the more touristed path and get deeper into the Everglades - this tour was perfect. Our guide was top notch and knew the area incredibly well, he took superb care of us, adapting to our pace and interests. Though we were roughing it by camping, there were plenty of snacks and good food and the tents were comfortable. All the gear was in good shape and we had everything we needed provided. We saw an incredible amount of birds, some little sharks and bioluminescent critters in the water at night. An unforgettable adventure!

Hawker Centers

Singapore

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
A must on any trip to Singapore is to visit one or more of the hawker centers. Basically the hawker centers are a variety of food stalls under one roof. The hawker stalls are somewhere between street food and a restaurant. Advantages are that the hawker centers have lots of seating, eating utensils, and are generally cleaner and safer than your average street food and every bit as delicious in most cases. If you've been street food shy in the past, definitely grab a snack, lunch or dinner at one of these centers! My favorite is Lau Pa Sat, but there are several all over Singapore.

When I was at the plaza there were bands playing and quite a crowd, so the people watching and music were really fun. There's also a nifty statue in the center with some great symbols of Ecuador, like the condor breaking the chains of servitude.

Middle of the World Monument (La Mitad del Mundo)

Quito

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review
There's really not that much to see here, its more about the fun of actually having gone to the equator. I did really like the ethnic museum inside the monument, definitely worth checking out to better understand all the different Ecuadorian cultures. Otherwise straddle some hemispheres and take some photos!

Otavalo Marketplace

Quito

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
Fantastic marketplace, the best place for souvenirs of Ecuador. I got really cool carved gourds and traditional Ecuadorian animal masks as well as some woven jewelry. I wasn't brave enough to eat some of the street food, but my husband had some great grilled corn. It takes hours to see the whole market at Otavalo, but well worth it for mixing with the mestizo people and selecting some great crafts.

Cozumel Scuba Diving

Cozumel

My Recommendation Tip

Cozumel is a fantastic place to scuba dive. I was advanced certified here and I highly recommend taking a resort course, getting PADI certified or kicking up your scuba certification to the next level in Cozumel. There are many reliable operators on the island and most resorts are set up with dive programs. There's dozens of great dive spots for all levels and abundant sea life. I saw tons of tropical fish, turtles and lovely reefs and the water temperature is ideal.

A bustling market, sometimes a little too crowded for me. All sorts of odd fish to be found (bag of squid beaks anyone?), definitely a sight to see. I really loved having sushi here, some of the best I have ever eaten and certainly fresh!

Studio Ghibli Museum

Tokyo

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
If you love the animation work of Studio Ghibli this museum is a must visit. Fun, interactive exhibits brought out the kid in me and I loved watching the film in their theater. The grounds and museum are like something out of the Ghibli films. Tickets must be bought in advance and the museum is a fair bit from Tokyo, so definitely consider a tour, or just make sure to get your tickets before arriving in Japan.

A nice museum for learning about Tokyo before it was Tokyo (then called Edo). Lots of old household items, furniture, carriages, cultural works and the like make up the bulk of he exhibits. Also offering rotating special exhibitions, we saw some great wood block prints.

A gorgeous and magical shrine. I loved contemplatively strolling through the miles of torii (gates) and stopping to admire small shrines and memorials. I also bought a magnetic talisman for my car to ward off accidents, its been nearly three years and so far so good! Maybe not the most famous shrine in the Kyoto area, but definitely my favorite.

Yosemite National Park

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
If you've never been its worth just taking in all the famous Yosemite sites you've seen in pictures: Yosemite Falls, El Capitan and Half Dome. But try to get away from the crowds on a less popular trail - I love Sentinel Dome, a much easier version of Half Dome, but still with a great view. Spring and fall are the best times to visit as the park is much less crowded. There's so many trails and the park is so huge, you'll never see it in one go, pick a couple of things to do and go for it, everyone comes back to Yosemite!

Amazing geothermic spa. I had a massage floating in the water which was lovely. We also had fun giving ourselves facials with the volcanic mud. Fairly far from Reykjavik proper so definitely recommend figuring out a bus or a tour, a taxi is really expensive to here. A great place to stop if you are on an airport layover, its not far from there.
