Great Ocean Road Small Group Eco Tour from Melbourne

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 5 star rating: Highly Recommended

Location: Melbourne, Australia

My Review: An excellent tour, smartly planned and well executed. This is the ideal way to see the major points of the Great Ocean Road, including a side trip into the prevailing forest and a breather stop to spot a few koalas and native birds along with a refresher break at reknowned Bells Beach. The smaller group numbers in the little van helped to keep the group together and on time. Our tour guide was very well informed and very personable, keeping everyone entertained during the long stretches between attractions. A wonderful day and I recommend it to everyone, visitor and Melbourne resident alike.

Melbourne City and Dandenong Ranges Half-Day Tour with Optional Yarra River Cruise

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 3 star rating: Worth doing

Location: Melbourne, Australia

My Review: Unfortunately this tour was cancelled after booking and confirmation and has been replaced by a city circuit tour. However, some of the alternate trip given as an incentive to stay with the tour did not eventuate. this was the inaugural tour and no doubt will be modified in time to incorporate more information, and maybe more photo opportunities. The circuit of the city gives the first-time visitor a good understanding of the inner area surrounding the central business and shopping district of Melbourne. Leaving Federation Square, we travelled to St Kilda Beach via Albert Park then crossed to Williamstown over the Westgate Bridge for a brief stop for afternoon tea. We returned past the new Docklands buildings, passed Flagstaff Gardens and Queen Victoria Markets to return to the starting point. This is a worthwhile tour for visitors to see something of the inner Melbourne suburbs to the south and west without having to cope with traffic conditions at the same time while learning some interesting facts. I would have liked a few more chances for photography and another stop or two rather than quickly trying to focus through a bus window. The War Memorial and Flagstaff Gardens would be good places for memorable pictures as neither could be easily seen from the bus. Over all, a pleasant and informative afternoon.

Edinburgh Rail Day Trip from London

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 4 star rating: Recommended

Location: London, United Kingdom

My Review: This tour was ideal for those who wish to organise their time within a tour framework. The train trip up took us past some fabulous countryside although the trip back was slightly marred by the railways double booking our tickets. The tour bus was an excellent way to get around the 'old' city with step on/step off options to plan the day's activities. The sights of the city of Edinburgh were crowded with excitement with so many attractions and distractions that the time disappeared effortlessly. The Castle atop the massive volcanic outcrop dominated the city. Guides advise allowing about 3 hours to visit the Castle, however, I spent over 3 and a half hours and saw only those parts related to earlier than 1600AD and it was barely enough time. The place is stunning and could easily take all your time from dawn to dusk to see properly. The shops along the steep road leading to the Castle were fascinating, and to add to the excitement and colour, the Fringe Festival was in full swing. I also visited St Giles Cathedral as the High Church of Scotland and a distant part of my ancestry. I would recommend this church to all visitors as an excellent example of church architecture with particular emphasis on the glorious Thistle Chaple. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and appreciate the chance to visit Edinburgh in my short time in the UK.

Private Viewing of Stonehenge including Bath and Lacock

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 5 star rating: Highly Recommended

Location: London, United Kingdom

My Review: Being able to walk among the standing stones was a magnificent experience and by far the one thing that stands out most in my entire holiday. Getting up at o'dark o'clock was well worth the effort. Lacock is a lovely little village that I would otherwise not have had the opportunity to see and would have loved more time to explore. Bath was a grand experience, second only to Stonehenge. However, more time should be allowed for the visit to the baths themselves now that so many people are slaved to the audio guide and choking progress through the exhibit while they stand in front of the subject until hearing all of the guide before actually looking and experiencing it. The only thing I would have liked further to the trip would be to complete the circle and visit Woodhenge. A quick view of the river Avon near Amesbury would also have been appreciated, even if just to pause inthe bus without getting out.
