Although I booked this tour, we were unable to go on the Madrid Tapas Tour. My daughter and I began to get sick just as we arrived at our hotel in Madrid Wednesday afternoon. We think it was food poisoning and both had a hard time leaving our room's bathroom for very long so she emailed the company guiding the tour and Viator to let them know we were not going to be able to make it. We were both looking forward to taking this tour. I am sure it would have been great.
This tour was okay but not as good as I thought it would be. It seem we rambled around a small section of Venice and then went on about a 30 min. gondola ride. This was my fourth ride in Venice and was the worst. Our guide was very nice and knowledgable and gave some good information. Most of us did not understand that we would not see him after our ride. We thought he would be waiting for us after our ride to give us some directions and let those of us that wanted to tip him do so.
Being picked up at the port was great. The driver was very good. Our guide was very informative and personable. He showed us some great places and views of Naples. When the tour was over, we chose to stay in town to eat a pizza made in Naples. Our guide pointed out one of his favorite places. We were served a small basket of bread (2.50 Euros) and a tomato and cheese plate (approximately 8 Euros) and we split a pizza we had ordered that cost less than 7 Euros. The house wine was good and cost 3.50 Euros a glass. I would recommend this place but be aware that you may get a couple of extra foods that you did not order but have to pay for. This is NOT Viator or the guides fault and we enjoyed the meal so much we did not have a problem paying for the extra food. If your are visiting Naples this tour is a great wayto spend a couple of hours. was
After traveling from the port via train to Rome and then taking a taxi to the square we met the group. Our guide was wonderful. She took us to several places, where we sampled the establishment's products including ham, cheese, sandwich, and gelato among other foods. Our guide hand picked each place and each had very good food. The gelato was the best I have ever had in Rome. We learned the history of each establishment and the story behind the food we ate. If you are looking for something off the beaten path and unusual, this tour could be for you. We loved it.
I have visited Rome several times and have observed it by day and night. A small bus pic ked us up at our hotel lobby ten minutes early but was kind enough to wait on us; took us to the booking office where everyone met and then we loaded on two busses. One for the Rome by Night and one was a combination of Rome By Night including the meal. By the time I booked our tour, there were not any more seats available for the trip without the meal thus I booked the trip with the meal. The night tour was very good. Our guide explained what we were viewing in several languages and did an excellent job. She was very friendly, had lots of energy, and did her best to make all of us happy. The sites were wonderful. However the meal was awful although the wine was acceptable. The first course was okay, the pasta.....not good....the meat awful (pressed turkey?), too salty and I like salt. The desert was okay. My granddaughter had the white sauce on her pasta and it was the best part of the meal. Viator needs to find a better place for the meal. It was expensive and was not good. We had dinner close to the Vatican the next night and the meal was great and much less expensive. After our tour our guide made arrangements for us to be taken back to our hotel via a taxi...on them. All in all I would book the night tour without the meal if I had a choice. It was worth the price but not the meal.
