Tuscany in One Day Sightseeing Tour

Florence, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was a long day--12 hours, but well worth it. The tour group, Walkabout, does only two tours in Florence, and both tours have very knowledgable tour guides who are also very personable. The stop for lunch at an organic farm that grows grapes as well as some organic food for their restaurant was wonderful, with a gorgeous hill view scene of Tuscany area. The trip on to Siena was beautiful, the city itself is spectacular, and the Cathedral is spectacular, well worth the trip by itself. Outside in the famous Piazza del Campo, you can actually imagine the Palio, or annual horse race, as it is run, without having to deal with the crushing crowds! A great place to buy pottery, also. On to the town of San Gimignano, you experience the feeling of the Romans by the various entrances to the enclosed city. The famous towers were worth the pictures we took, and the buildings themselves were interesting. Onto seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa, as the last stop, to me, was anticlimatic. It was interesting to see it in person, and everyone seems to want to take the photos of their holding it up, but once you have seen it, after all the other things in Tuscany, it seemed oh hum....

The trip to and back, just through the countryside, are spectacular.

Murano, Burano and Torcello Half-Day Sightseeing Tour

Venice, Italy

My Review

The price is right for this tour, but the guide mainly gives information on the boat, so she competed with engine noise and people talking. The 3 islands are all different, and worth the trip over and back.

Cinque Terre Hiking Day Trip from Florence

Florence, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

For the younger set, this is a great tour. The tour group, Walkabout, has only two tours in Florence, both great. This one would have been great if we were younger. The views from the hiking trail and the towns is spectacular and well worth the trip. However, the promotion information for the tour says to be of average fitness and don't wear flip flops. True, but even though I thought I was of average fitness and my fiance, also, at the ages of 68 and 74, we were not prepared for the trail that starts the tour, and had it not been for the tour guide and 2 young couples, we probably wouldn't have made if off that trail without their help. So, a wonderful tour, just not for everyone, especially older with some limitations we discovered by hiking the trail!

Skip the Line: Small-Group Florence Renaissance Walking Tour with Accademia Gallery

Florence, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

My fiance and I took two half day tours the same day. This was the morning tour, and the tour guide was excellent. If you had a question, she had the answer, and could ellaborate on the answer. There are so many things to see in Florence, that you could walk for days and not understand all you were seeing; consequently, a tour gives you the heads up. This tour gave us a lot of history and information about Florence, as well as the highlight, for us, of going to the Accademia Gallery and seeing the David in person.

Skipping the line for any museums in Florence means waiting 20-30 minutes versus over an hour as an individual without prior purchase of a ticket. So, you definitely skip the line for a shorter line!

Florence Half-Day or Full-Day Sightseeing Tour

My Review

The tour guide for this tour was excellent...knowledgable, and definitely very interested in the areas we traveled. There is no "skip the line" that is short to go to the Uffizi Gallery. We were on this tour in late September, and it was very crowded in Florence. The line to go to the Uffizi Gallery was extremely long, our guided tour took about 20 minutes, so I hate to think what would have happened if we weren't on tour. The Uffizi Gallery is beautiful, and again, our guide was extremely knowledgable about the paintings and the history of the Gallery. It is close to a section of Florence with a lot of wonderful history, beautiful statues which you will find out about before entering the Uffizi where you will see some original statues.

Szentendre Half Day Sightseeing Trip from Budapest

Budapest, Hungary

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Szentendre is beautiful, but really a spot to buy, if you are a tourist, as there are shops after shops. Our tour guide did a favorable job of giving information on the bus to the artist town, and as we walked. But half of the trip was on your own to shop, which we had not expected. The ferry ride back to Budapest on the Danube would have been nicer if we hadn't just come off of a river cruise and had been on the Danube for a while. The ferry was full, crowded with people standing and the sun was at an angle that we could not see anything. If you haven't been on the Danube, and weren't bothered by a very crowded boat, and could see, you would see the bend in the Danube that is so famous, and which we did get a picture while passing.

The town of Szentendre is also, besides tons of shops, a very quaint and pictureque town.
