Avila and Segovia Day Trip from Madrid

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Well worth the day trip!! Beautiful places (truly like a Fairy tale), and interesting history. our Guide, Anna, made the trip fun, not rushed (even though you are on a tight schedule to see everything in a day). Anna's cadence for explainations went in sentences, not in paragraphs - 2 or 3 sentences in Spanish repeated in English, then visa versa, so that no one lost interest between the two, making the history very enjoyable. Get the lunch option; the roasted pig and lamb offered with this trip was wonderful with generous portions of food and wine. Be prepared to walk -a lot- on cobblestone roads and walkways. HINT: wear comfortable, flat shoes. We watched a young lady twist her ankle in the wrong shoes -ruined her trip and disrupted everyone elses!! Have fun and Safe Travels

Madrid Segway Tour

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This tour is absolutely the BEST way to see the city!! We were a group of 4 over 50's, 1 w/experience, 3 w/o experience. The pre-tour safety training was excellent, covered every possibility and we didn't leave until all were comfortable on the machine! Enjoyed the 1 1/2 hour tour so much we decided to stay an extra hour and see the rest of the City! Our Guide Nicholas was so engaging, very knowledgeable and extremely safety conscious -being a safety instructor myself that was important to me-he made sure we were never put into situations that might cause problems and that instilled confidence in all of us! Highly recommended in fact, going to schedule this now in every city we visit in future. Hint: in Madrid be very careful with the knee height curb barriers as you pass thru them -the wheels on the Segway are wider then you are -easy to forget when you're having fun! LOL- and Boy did we have some fun, Thanks Nicholas!!

Madrid Tapas Night Walking Tour

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

we had a real issue with this tour-there were approx 12 people booked with us on this evening tour - we met the Guide, Danny, at the designated place and he was fun and engaging so we really felt like this tour was going to be a blast!! Danny told us he would be taking us to Four places for tapas and wine with regional significance to the whole of Spain. We went to the first one, a Northern (moor and celtic) influence -had a glass of Cider (very Beer like) and the twelve of us shared 3 small plates of Tapas (they were good) -then we went to a Museo of Ham had a glass of Sangria and shared 3 plates of Tapas -this averaged out to one piece of two choices each. At this point, he explained that the $50+EU each we had paid for the tour only covered these two stops. Now, upon post review of the tour explaination it did say that , but we had not read all the way down the page where that was listed ( and from the shocked look on the other participants faces neither had they) so were surprised when the guide asked for another 10 EU each ($20 EU a couple) paid directly to him, to could continue on to the other two places.....???? My Wife and our friends (4 people) decided to leave the tour at this point. reason being -for $200+EU, the 4 of us had approx. 4 or 5 bites of food and two drinks -in comparison, for the same $200+EU, we had 2 pitchers of Sangria, 4 salads, 2 roasted pig and 2 roasted lamb entrees and 4 deserts w/coffee at the Casa Botin in Plaza Mayor (highly recommend this one)!! We quietly said goodnight to the tour guide who seemed a little put out that we chose to leave the tour as others were getting out their wallets to pay. I have booked these walking/eating tours in other cities and was never disappointed, but was never asked to pay additional to continue on a tour I had paid this much for. I would not recommend this one, but if you go, bring your wallet and a map as you weave a very wide path thru the city.

Madrid Super Saver: El Escorial Monastery and Toledo Day Trip from Madrid

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

The all day tour was worth the money-but don't get the lunch option, they bring you back to Madrid and take you around the corner to a café that is marginal at best and served an American inspired "traditional" lunch, not a Spanish traditional. The City and Monastery were absolutely gorgeous, the history amazing, but to see it all it is a little rushed and our Guide gave most of the tour's extensive explainations in Spanish then said "this is a Monastery" in English. Toledo is worth a whole day trip on it's own!! Hint: wear really comfortable shoes, lots of walking on cobble stone.

The boat was large and comfortable and well maintained.Tthe food was snack packs but are pretty good and the staff on board are pleasent and helpful. Hint : do get your tickets early as they board by ticket number on the leg from the US to Canada but get to the dock early as on the return trip it is first come first serve for boarding. The window tables go first and fast. Victoria was beautiful and tea at the Empress Hotel was fabulous. We will do this again!!

Chicago Segway Tour

Chicago, Illinois

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

I booked this trip for myself and four other friends -we are between 50 - 70 yrs old. None of us had ever been on a Segway before and were a little nervous. We had an absolute blast and what a fun way to see the city ! Staff was so welcoming and helpful ( I got lost on my way to the tour location and they stayed on the phone giving me- literally- step by step directions!) Being a Safety and Risk Supervisor, I was impressed with their attention and commitment to safe operations. Our guide Meadows was patient and knowledgable making the tour fun and comfortable for everyone. We all had such a good time and talked about it so much after that the other 12 ladies in our travel group were sorry they didn't take the tour too!! I enjoyed it so much my husband and I will be taking the tour with this company again in San Fransisco next month. I highly recommend this tour-Fun, Fun, Fun.

Brussels and Antwerp Day Trip from Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

This was one of two trips we scheduled with Viator -partnered to a local Amsterdam Tour company- it was so awful that we left the tour and bought train tickets from Brussels back to Amsterdam rather then spend one more minute with this company. There was no tour- it was an uninformative bus ride to the location. They took us on a double decker bus, with one guide!! The guide had to repeat everything in three additional languages and apologized to my wife that he was unable to give us all the information because he had to repeat it in four languages!!! The company had over booked this tour time and actually left 10 people standing on the sidewalk to wait for the next tour 2 hours later- they were very angry. The locations were pretty enough on their own, but the tour was a complete waste of time. Please review your partnership with this Amsterdam Company- we were greatly disappointed in both day tours.
