Skip the Line: Venice in One Day

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this

Location: Venice, Italy

My Review: Whenever we have done a family trip to a major city we have taken at least two tours. This tour, by far was the worst! Not to mention the most expensive. As a family we look forward to the tours, my kids love learning about history and places through interesting and engaging guides and our guide for this trip was boring, difficult to understand and unable to share anything beyond what could be read in any introductory tour book. What a disappointment. The Grand Canal Tour was beautiful but the Walking Tour was a total waste of time and money.

Berlin Bike Tour

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 4 star rating: Recommended

Location: Berlin, Germany

My Review: Great tour guide! Comfortable bikes and an easy ride made for a very entertaining day. We had our two kids with us - ages 8 and 13 and they loved it. A great introduction to the city and a way for us to get our bearings.

Skip the Line: Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica Half-Day Walking Tour

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 4 star rating: Recommended

Location: Rome, Italy

My Review: With two children ages 13 and 8, we started the tour without telling them it would last three hours! I was a bit worried they'd rebel and refuse to go. Having a tour guide made the lines into the buildings a breeze. The tour guide was very good. Its easy to be completely overwhelmed by what you see. We could have wandered around aimlessly but the tour provided the history, art and Vatican lessons in 'cliffnotes', that was so necessary to understand and appreciate what we were seeing. My kids would have been bored and complaining if I had tried to tackle sharing all the information our tour guide was able to ramble off in a very interesting, detailed manner with several bits of humor. Our guide captivated all the kids on the tour and she was able to answer every question that was shot at her. The headphone system used was slick. We could hear our guide perfectly even if we were trailing behind or were in a room full of other tour groups.

Bring water and food. The only thing I regretted was not having some food, at least I brought water. After the tour, my kids were starving and it didn't help that so many people around us were pulling out their lunch bags. There's no food to buy within the Vatican but you can bring your own. In retrospect we would have had lunch in the Square and then gone back in. It wasn't a cheap tour, but nothing in Rome is! For best bang for the buck, it was money well spent and served as an excellent introduction to the Vatican's treasures.
