Keukenhof Gardens and Tulip Fields Tour from Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

I am sure in peak season the gardens are lovely, but unfortunately on my trip (21 March) there weren't any flowers in bloom. There were a couple of indoor pavillions with 'flower shows' which were amazing displays of colour, but another couple of these were still being set up. There were plenty of cafes and many souvenir shops - but they seemed to sell the same stuff. There was a nice walk around the lake and the chance to climb a windmill, but overall there was only enough to keep me busy a couple of hours. I actually left on the earlier bus from the half-day tour. I would advise you to check with the local agent as well, because the departure time was different to the time on my Viator ticket and the local agent's office had moved too. Worth a couple of hours of your time, but go in peak season

I amsterdam Card - City Pass for Amsterdam

Amsterdam, Netherlands

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This card is great and by booking with Viator I was able to save a few pounds on the cost of buying directly at the airport. The voucher was exchanged easily for two cards - one for the museums and a transport card for the trams in the centre. Please note you can't use this to get from the airport to the centre, but they will sell you those tickets at the redemption place. The card was accepted easiely by all the museums on the list and it gave me the chance to try out some museums that I wouldn't have normally visited. I definately saved money by using the card. Would highly recommend.

Discover Berlin Half-Day Walking Tour

Berlin, Germany

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
I would highly recommend this walking tour mostly around East Berlin. The guide was a German-American who was fun, friendly and informative. We got to view most of the main sights although there wasn't time to visit them. But as the tour is half a day, it's easy to go back later to see the museums. The guide will help you and make sure you know where to visit.

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial Walking Tour

Berlin, Germany

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
An excellent trip. I was met at the West Berlin station and escorted to the camp which is a 20 minute walk from the nearest station. This time was not wasted as the guide was talking to us all the way. We spent about 4 hours at the camp which was enough to see the main bits, but not much time for the museums. You could stay on after and see more and make your own way back to the city centre. Having a guide meant I learnt a lot more than just going round myself, but there is a lot to see at the site. This tour did not include a break and was good value but you will be tired after walking all day.

Circle Line: Harbor Lights Night Cruise

New York City, New York

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
This was a real surprise. We enjoyed the cruise although it was dark all the way given the time of year. It was also really cold so we sat outside for half the trip and to take some photos then inside. The commentary can be heard outside and inside. We managed to get some decent skyline photos but the Statue of Liberty isn't well lit so don't expect your pictures of her to work out unless you have a very expensive camera. This was a pleasant two hours and I can imagine in summer it is lovely.

Ground Zero Museum Workshop Tour

New York City, New York

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
This is a hidden gem. The museum is quite tricky to find, located in an out of the way part of 14th Street, but it is very moving and personal. It is basically one room showing the photos from the Fire Dept's official photographer. They show a short film of him telling which photos he took and then you get an audio tape to select stories about individual items. They have actual pieces of glass, tickets, dolls and bits from the site. Everything is about personal stories and is very tasteful. There's another museum near Ground Zero which we didn't visit but I would recommend this museum.

New York in One Day Sightseeing Tour

New York City, New York

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review
This was a real disappointment. Firstly I took the trouble to ring and confirm from the UK but the trip failed to show up at 10am. There were a few people waiting so we called and they said 'oh it's 12:30 now'. After waiting all that while the actual tour was disappointing. There was an hour stop for lunch and only a couple of brief photo stops - two minutes each. The tour guide was informative and it was good to drive through places like Chinatown which we wouldn't have seen otherwise. If you buy a metrocard you can do all this much easier on your own.
