Paris Shuttle Departure Transfer: Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)

Paris, France

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review

I booked this transfer right after I had booked our Private Transfer from Gare de Nord to our hotel in Central Paris so in booking this transfer to CDG Airport I assumed it was also a Private Transfer. NOT SO! We were a family of 5 with luggage and Backpacks which is why I wanted a Private Transfer. We had a 10:10 AM flight back to the states. When I called to confirm both transfers I was told our pick up time was 6:00 AM! At the time I figured traffic must be heavy which is why that early a pick up time.

The driver arrived 15 minutes late just as the hotel was ordering a Taxi for us, which then had to be cancelled. When I asked why he was late the driver just stares at me and gave no answer. He grumbled about the amount of luggage we had and made some surly comment about having to pick up others people. I told him that I was under the impression that this was to be a private transfer and in a very angry voice said " take it up with the company". When we arrived at the next party's hotel I asked how many he was picking up and he turned around and yelled at me, "Why you ask me this question". A party of 2 were placed in the front seat of the van. (Mother and Daughter). The daughter asked a question when we went to the third pick up and the driver made a statement like " why don't you think before you ask a question!!!!!

Of course when we finally got to the airport the driver tried to turn on the charn as it was tip time. Needless to say this was the transfer from HELL! This driver needs a course in customer service! The company needs to have a policy that if the driver will be late that a phone call advising the customer so they do not think that the transfer is not going to happen!

In reviewing my paperwork I noticed that there was not a mention of "Private" as there was in our Private transfer fron the train station, so I will take responsible for assuming something that was not, but the driver's attitude was totally unacceptable. There are other companiI

Paris L'Open Hop-On-Hop-Off Tour

Paris, France

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

We have done many Hop On Hop Off Buses in many cities. This tour had four different lines you could take so you really goy to see all of Paris including some of the further from center areas. We were a family of 5 traveling and bought the one day pass which if you want to take all of the lines and get off at many of the stops there really is not enough time. I would recommend the two day pass if you are in Paris for more than 2 days! The audio tour is in many different languages via the use of ear plugs which are given as you enter the first bus. If a seat is available on the top be sure to seat there as viewing what the commentary is saying from the inside of the bus is not good. If it is raining, as it did for most of our day, I would recommend waiting unless you do not mind getting wet. I noticed that there were some others that had retractable canvas coverings for when it was raining, however, those did not have as extensive an itinerary as this company.

Private Transfer: Gare du Nord Train Station (Eurostar Terminal)

My Review

Our driver was waiting for us at the end of the track just was we were instructed. Our train was early and he was still there waiting for us with our name on a placard. This transfer was very smooth and I highly recommend using this service versus a waiting in a Taxi cue. We were a family of five traveling with suitcases and backpacks Nd there was plenty of storage for the bags. Our driver was very polite and extremely professional. Do not hesitate to use this service for a smooth transfer into the center of Paris!

My Review

Do not miss this opportunity to see the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's on this small group tour. Anna our guide was superb, unbelievable knowledge, great sense of humor. Our group had eleven, we were a group of 5 with two girls ages 12 and 15 who really enjoyed this tour along with the adults. We were able to get into areas where larger tour groups could not, truly a joy and not to be missed!

Assisi and Orvieto Day Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

We were a family of 5 and purchased this tour because it was advertised as an English tour. We were picked up at our hotel at 6:30 AM!, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately this tour was also given in two other languages and the shortest of explanations was in English!

Orvieto was a lovely town to visit but we would have liked to spend more time there instead of going to some isolated place for lunch where they were selling there Olive Oil, Cheeses and sausages. The food was ok but then if you wanted dessert that was extra. Skip the lunch and let people pick up a quick bite in Orvieto instead.
The local guide in Assisi was very good but did not take us into St Francis' Church, that we had to do on our own.

We got back into Rome about 10:00 PM which made it a very long day. We were disappointed that the tour was not just in English. We thought we should have been given much more history of the region while we were on our 2+ hour journey outbound which given that the guide had 3 languages to deal with was not possible.

We have been on many similar type of tour in many different cities and this was not up to the same standards we have come to expect.

This is the only way to get from Central London to Heathrow! The car was spotless, the driver punctual and neatly dressed. When traffic was very congested in Central London he knew just how to avert the traffic so we were not just sitting in traffic. Very pleasant and would definitely hire again.

Small-Group Day Trip to Oxford, the Cotswolds and Stratford-upon-Avon from London

London, United Kingdom

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Great tour. Dave was our driver and guide with the exception of Oxford when a local guide, Debbie, took over. Stratford-upon-Avon is a bit touristy but a must see if you have not been there. Dave made the Cotswolds come alive taking us to several small villages via back roads! Loved every minute!

Dublin City Hop-on Hop-off Tour

Dublin, Ireland

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This is a great way to get an introduction to the city. Two couples used this to go around the city first checking off the places that we wanted to visit, stopping at those on the second time around. The tour takes about 1 1/2 hours and the ticket is good for 24 hours. Our driver was the narrator with a great sense of humor. If it is not raining try to sit up top for a better view.

Skip the Line: Guinness Storehouse Entrance Ticket

Dublin, Ireland

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Loved the Skip the Line as a large tour bus had just arrived and we were able to pop in ahead of this large group. This is a self guided tour with tons of information about the ingredients, the brewing and the history. After finally making it up to the top floor you are rewarded with a pint of the "black stuff" or a soft drink if you prefer. It was very crowded when we got there and it took a few minutes to reach the bartender. The views are great, there are only a few seating options and some standup tables. Overall a very good experience. Don't miss the shop on the first floor prior to leaving.

We booked this tour on the afternoon we arrived which was a big mistake after a long transatlantic flight. We made it about half way through the tour before we had to leave. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we regret we were not able to finish the tour. We would definitely do this again on a return trip to Dublin, just not on the day we arrive!

Neuschwanstein Castle Small Group Day Tour from Munich

Munich, Germany

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review
I was torn between 4 and 5 stars and chose the lesser because of several factors: (1) our group consisted of 45 +/- 5 which I do not consider a "small" group; (2) our departure time was delayed almost an hour due to track repair along our route and our return trip required two different buses as well as the train, again due to repair work. I am not sure how long the repair work will take but if it is more than a week or so they should adjust the departure time; (3) Very long line to purchase a ticket for a bus ride up to the castle left many in the group with not enough time to visit Mary's Bridge as we got there just prior to our admission time (be on time or do not get in). Other than the above this was a lovely excursion to a very popular tourist attraction. Our English speaking Guide (he is from the Seattle area & has lived in Germany for almost 9 years) was very good at trying to answer everyone's questions. The village below the castle is quite charming and worth a stroll around or sitting in an outside cafe sipping a beer and people watching! (earned it walking down from the castle) Great Bratwurtz sandwich next to where the buses park - walk up to the window and order 2.50 euros which we did while we waited for our guide to purchase admission tickets to the Castle. Surounding scenery is breathtaking.
