I traveled with a driver and two others to Fontainebleau and Vaux le Vicomte. I was told to be out on my street corner at 8:00 but the driver didn't come until 8:35. That was fine though. We picked up one other person and we were off. We only stopped in Barbizon for 10 minutes. It would have been nice to at least been able to grab a coffee or something. We didn't really "visit" Barbizon. I would have liked to tour Milet's studio, which was right next to where we stopped and very uncrowded. Then we went to Fontainebleau, which was beautiful. Our guide set us up with the audio guide and provided background information. We had a good tour but didn't have time to walk around outside. Then we went to Vaux le Vicomte and had lunch. It was in the back of a cafeteria style restaurant in a private room. The food was mediocre but we did get a bottle of wine and several kinds of water. The tour guide didn't eat with us, which I thought was strange, since we were only a group of three. When I asked him why he said "I wasn't invited." One of our group didn't speak English very well, but we muddled along. Then we toured Vaux, which was also very beautiful. We had time to walk around the gardens afterwards and get ice cream. Our guide was right outside when we finished. He was an excellent driver and gave us interesting commentary along the way.
