Ancient Rome Half-Day Walking Tour
Rome, Italy
My Rating

This trip packed an awful lot in - perhaps a little too much for the time available. We'd visited the Pantheon a couple of times before but I wanted to learn more about the history but there really was no time. Good tour of the Colosseum and the Forum though - the Fontana de Trevi was rather manic!

Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome
Rome, Italy
My Rating

This was an interesting site but I don't feel that Ancient Ostia lived up to the hype in claiming to be better than Pompeii. It really isn't. In addition the meeting point at the Pyramide metro station is not particularly easy to find. There was a lot to see though and I'm pleased that we went there.

Tivoli Day Trip from Rome: Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa
Rome, Italy
My Rating

The barman in our hotel recommended these two places to us last year. I'm so pleased that we took him up on the suggestions. Hadrian's Villa is an interesting archaeological site - the size of it is breathtaking but the highlight was the tour of Villa d'Este. The gardens are the most beautiful I have ever seen with, literally, hundreds of water features. The fountains and waterfalls are so mesmerising I could have spent the whole day sitting watching them and listening to the water. This trip is a must!

Ghost and Mystery Walking Tour of Rome
Rome, Italy
My Rating

This was a lovely way to spend a first evening in Rome. We'd had a very early start and wanted to make sure that we didn't just sit and fall asleep in a restaurant! So we ate early and joined this tour. It was a very enjoyable stroll around a number of locations relating to nefarious goings on in Rome's past. Our Californian guide was friendly and a good story teller. I'd recommend this tour - especially for a first night

Rome Angels and Demons Half-Day Tour
Rome, Italy
My Rating

This was an absolutely brilliant tour. Our guide was Roberto who was so enthusiastic and such a showman that he kept the whole group captivated. It doesn't follow the book very tightly but brings in lots of information about the history of Rome, of the Christian church, of the sculptures and churches and other sights encountered. I would recommend the tour to anyone, regardless of whether or not you have any interest in Angels and Demons.

Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour
Rome, Italy
My Rating

I enjoyed this tour; it was very interesting, but it's not a walking tour. We got in a coach from the office and were driven to the Catacombs and stopped off at a couple of places but did hardly any walking. That's not a complaint - just for information. The Catacombs were very moving; we were shown round by a priest from India who was there for the summer and he was an excellent presenter. We learned quite a lot and were astonished at the way they were constructed. No photos allowed!
