Skip the Line: Borghese Gallery and Gardens Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Massimo was our guide and his enthusiasm and depth and breadth of knowledge made this tour hugely enjoyable. When he told us at the beginning we would spend two hours in the gallery then have a 15 minute break and 45 minutes in the gardens I felt disappointed, wishing it were the other way round. However the two hours flew by and I would love to have had more time. The tour of the gardens was unfortunately cut short by a very heavy rain shower but we were able to see quite a lot. The sheer volume of art accumulated by the Borghese family is breathtaking. This was an excellent tout, highly recommended

Skip the Line: Florence in One Day Sightseeing Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Once we got to Florence we were handed over to our Florence guide, Maria Grazia, or MG. MG was cheerful and friendly despite having some hassle from difficult tourists in the group who had travelled halfway round the world to holiday in Italy without getting a single euro of local currency and seemed to think MG was there to take them by the hand to find some! She had extensive knowledge of Florence and pointed out many feature of interest and indicated the best vantage points for taking photos. Lunch was very good thought the surroundings were rather basic. To stand in front of Michaelangelo's David was a marvellous experience, truly awe-inspiring. It is quite a long coach ride from Rome and the guide on the coach was disappointing, she was quite talkative but we would have much preferred peace and quiet!

Ancient Rome Half-Day Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

This trip packed an awful lot in - perhaps a little too much for the time available. We'd visited the Pantheon a couple of times before but I wanted to learn more about the history but there really was no time. Good tour of the Colosseum and the Forum though - the Fontana de Trevi was rather manic!

Ancient Ostia Small Group Day Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

This was an interesting site but I don't feel that Ancient Ostia lived up to the hype in claiming to be better than Pompeii. It really isn't. In addition the meeting point at the Pyramide metro station is not particularly easy to find. There was a lot to see though and I'm pleased that we went there.

Tivoli Day Trip from Rome: Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

The barman in our hotel recommended these two places to us last year. I'm so pleased that we took him up on the suggestions. Hadrian's Villa is an interesting archaeological site - the size of it is breathtaking but the highlight was the tour of Villa d'Este. The gardens are the most beautiful I have ever seen with, literally, hundreds of water features. The fountains and waterfalls are so mesmerising I could have spent the whole day sitting watching them and listening to the water. This trip is a must!

Ghost and Mystery Walking Tour of Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was a lovely way to spend a first evening in Rome. We'd had a very early start and wanted to make sure that we didn't just sit and fall asleep in a restaurant! So we ate early and joined this tour. It was a very enjoyable stroll around a number of locations relating to nefarious goings on in Rome's past. Our Californian guide was friendly and a good story teller. I'd recommend this tour - especially for a first night

Rome Angels and Demons Half-Day Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was an absolutely brilliant tour. Our guide was Roberto who was so enthusiastic and such a showman that he kept the whole group captivated. It doesn't follow the book very tightly but brings in lots of information about the history of Rome, of the Christian church, of the sculptures and churches and other sights encountered. I would recommend the tour to anyone, regardless of whether or not you have any interest in Angels and Demons.

Skip the Line: Vatican Museums Walking Tour including Sistine Chapel, Raphael's Rooms and St Peter's

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
This was really excellent. Our tour guide, was brilliant and kept us entertained and informed throughout the tour. We saw so much and learned a great deal. The tour is worth every penny as you make such good use of the available time - seeing the length of the queues made the tour worthwhile even without the added value of our guide! I would recommend this tour to every visitor to Rome

Catacombs and Roman Countryside Half-Day Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

I enjoyed this tour; it was very interesting, but it's not a walking tour. We got in a coach from the office and were driven to the Catacombs and stopped off at a couple of places but did hardly any walking. That's not a complaint - just for information. The Catacombs were very moving; we were shown round by a priest from India who was there for the summer and he was an excellent presenter. We learned quite a lot and were astonished at the way they were constructed. No photos allowed!

Pompeii Day Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
This was absolutely brilliant. It was a long day but worth it, The three hour drive down to Pompeii seemed much less (short 'comfort' break halfway) and our co-ordinator was very friendly and kept us informed. Pompeii was breathtaking; we were there about 2.5 hours and taken round by a local guide. Would have liked to stay longer but there was a lot to pack in and our guide showed us the key sites there. Then back to the coach for a short drive to a restaurant and a basic but tasty pizza then on to Vesuvius. The coach driver was magnificent - tackling a very steep gradient and a narrow winding road - and then we all made it to the top (really hard work for the first part but worth it!). The return journey passed just as quickly and smoothly. Highly recommended!

Rome Arrival Shuttle Transfer: Airport to Hotel

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review
This transfer offered good value for money. There was some confusion at the start - the driver was busy on the phone to the office and had no card with our name on. However we worked out he was our driver; as he had almost no English he put us on the phone to the office where they wondered where the other people booked on the shuttle transfer were. We said we had no idea so were told we must wait half an hour for them. An hour or so after arrival there was no sign of anyone else and the driver took us promptly to very close to our hotel (closer than we were actually told we would be dropped). The outcome was good!
