A really lovely day out. I chose to take the tour rather than bother with finding the way there and back myself, and it made life very easy - driven to the door with a commentary on the history of tulips and the gardens, then picked up again to drive back to Amsterdam.
My visit was late in the season - last week - and so many of the large fields of tulips were done for the year, but there were still many beautiful displays to see. The pavilion displays, in particular the Lilies and the Orchids were spectacular!
I enjoyed this afternoon tour.
First, a trip to the small village of Zaanse Schans where we visited the last wind-powered sawmill, then on to Volendam where we saw the local museum - really lovely - and visited a cheese factory. After cheese purchases, there was time for a 'lunch' stop - this was at around 4pm on our 12:30pm tour, so have something to eat beforehand!
Then on a ferry to Marken, where we saw a demonstration on clog making, before boarding the bus back to Amsterdam.
Our tour guide was great about keeping us to time in each place, so we were able to spend enough time at each stop and make it back on schedule.
A really wonderful tour - highly recommended. Our tour guide, Caroline, was very informative, and the 4 hours flew by.
Great overview of Berlin - we did this on our first day and it helped us to firm up our plans for what to do for the rest of the week.
We would highly recommend this tour. Both the Monastery and the Valley of the Fallen monument are fabulous - very different eras of history but both fascinating.
We were the only English speakers on our tour - it was a small group - but our tour guide still took the time to explain everything to us
