We enjoyed the tour and a half day is definitely enough. They don't tell you before you get on the bus that it is a 'combined bus' so people doing the salt mines and full day tour are also there. You will drop off the 'salt miners' on the way to Eagles nest, and because the Salt mines takes much longer than it does to look around Eagles next you are left up there for an hour either standing around waiting or having to have a coffee/food as there is nothing up there other than a restaurant. The tour guide didnt tell us anything about Eagles nest other than what you can read online. Tour guides are not allowed in the Restaurant, but we overheard two other guides just outside on the balcony area giving descriptions of what rooms had been used for and why, and when extensions had been fitted and why etc, unfortunatey we didn't get any of that information and that would have made it far more interesting and informative. Our guide just left us to go have a coffee. After an hr we left, and had a quick 50mins in Berchtesgarten. We would have preferred to spend a little less time waiting around on Eagles nest, and more time exploring the town, but because it was a combined bus it had to work to the larger groups time table. I guess if we'd been given a more informative guide when we were on Eagles Nest it wouldn't have felt like we were waiting around. I definitely recommend going up there, its beautiful, but don't expect too much info or perhaps find a more personal tour.
