New York City Gourmet Food Cart Walking Tour

New York City, New York

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Our favorite tour on this NYC trip. Our guide was Matt who had high energy and poured lots of personality into the tour. He was personable and knew all the vendors/owners, some which came out to chat with us. The food choices were diverse and we were given good sized portions of everything...jerk chicken or curried goat, falafel with spicy rice, souvlaki with pita bread, korean style tacos, banh mi sandwich, and a belgian waffle. The meeting place was easy to find (Wall street subway stop) and half the stops had someplace to sit down to eat your food. On the tour, you walk on the famous Stone Street which has US historical signficance. Worth the money and the time to come all the way down to the Financial District.

NYC East Village Food Tour

New York City, New York

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Nice to be able to tour this neighborhood with a guide who provided history on how this area gentrified over the recent years. Ecletic, artsy neighboorhood with lots of different shops and good walkability. Our guide was a culinary school graduate who is passionate about food and food history. Gave three stars only because the food (although good!) did not surprise me so much given all the other ethic places we saw ...egg cream drink, hotdog, pizza, salami/cheese, ukranian borsht and a canoli. The money spent on this tour was worth it for the neighborhood tour but not really for the food.

New York Pizza Tour to Brooklyn and Coney Island

New York City, New York

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Great food and our tour guide was a "Brooklynite" who poured in lots of personality. At first glance, 4 hours seems to be a lot of time to devote to eating pizza (and expensive...$80 for 4 slices of pizza?) but this tour encompasses sprinklings of history, neighborhood tours, and architechtural tidbits. Side stop to Brooklyn Park which makes for a nice photo back drop with the Brooklyn Bridge and NYC cityscape. Quick unscheduled stop at the famous Jacque Torres Chocolate shop was a bonus. What made Brooklyn come alive were the clippings from movies provided by the tour guide. She played those clips while we were passing or driving through exact site where they were filmed. It was terrific that they provided transportation with a pick up/drop off in Manhattan otherwise we would have never been able to see DUMBO or Coney Island in the time frame we had. The best time saver was when we got to Grimaldi's Pizza, there was already a very long line of customers waiting to be seated. Being on the tour, we were able to walk right in and be seated. Before you knew it, our pies were being served. We ate and moved on and some of those customers were still in line. Very kid friendly tour and my family loved it. And for the pizza? It's good and well.....just tastes like pizza.

Ancient Appian Way, Catacombs and Roman Countryside Bike Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

I've been to Rome many times and this allowed me to see Rome from a different perspective. I loved this tour very much. Federico, our guide, was very enthusiastic and allowed us to stop for photos along the way. He even climbed a few fig trees in search of some ripe figs for us to try since they were in season. The lunch stop was a nice surprise (farmhouse located within a park only 3 miles from the city center) with all food made from the farm products. Delicious. We rode 32 km in 6 hours and the temperature was perfect in September. My only complaint was that I did not want the tour to end. Bravo Federico!

Madrid Tapas Night Walking Tour

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Great food and great company! You could walk into any tapas place and do this on your own but it was so much fun to have Brent and James, our guides, suggest the local favorites for us to order. We would have never ordered them on our own but everything they recommended was super tasty. We went to 4 places and had a full sized drink at every one to go along with the tapas. Highly suggest to do this on your first night in Madrid just to get your bearings and to know what to order in the future. Please note the guides will ask for more Euros for the "kitty" (only the first tapas and drink is included in the price). This will be an awkward moment if you did not read the voucher carefully. We each put in 22 Euros extra which is well worth the value since it afforded us about 3 or 4 tapas at each place with a beverage (alcoholic or not) at each stop. I asked James (owner) to just charge $75 in the beginning and be done with it. He said he is reluctant to do it because it does not allow flexibility among the group. No worries, the extra money spent will be of good value. Your tour mates will be foodies also anyway. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Sometimes you do not get a chair or table at the first 3 stops. The last stop is a reserved table for the whole group at 11 pm and you will get to sit comfortably there.

Madrid Bike Tour

Fun way to work off all the tapas you will be eating! Loved it! Be aware the starting point (bike shop) is a little hard to find. It is on a tiny street which is 2 streets away from Puerto del Sol (statue of the Bear). Allow time to find it. Otherwise, it was so much fun riding through the streets of Madrid. Beware there are no bike lanes so you ride in the street, on the sidewalk. on the pedestrian paths, anywhere!
