This was a fabulous day out with great sights to be seen. Our tour guide, Peter, did a wonderful job of keeping a very large group of very different people together and mostly on time. He had to manage a very demanding group of Canadian "Dance Moms" with their children on a dancing tour to Heidelberg under some kind of control who were often wanting to do their own thing and not be part of the group. They whinged and whined, but it did not get to Peter, or our driver Manfred, who did an amazing job on the Heidelberg part of this trip. The Rhine River cruise was fantastic and the castles rolling by on the banks, with wine fields rising up over the hills, was a beautiful site to see while sipping a glass of white wine, indoors and out of the cold. My only negative about the day was to be aware that this is two half day tours, which means traveling away from and back to the tour office twice in the one day. That doubled the length of time in the bus. Other than that, a memorable day. Thank you Peter and Manfred, it was a great day.
Now this was a tour! The bus was fabulously comfortable. Our tour guide, Marcus, was amazing. Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Oberammergau were all beautiful and what a bonus to have Kaffee und Sachertorte in Oberammergau. I loved this tour because it made a dream come true. Marcus is a hoot, because he had me convinced that it would be an easy 20 minute stroll to the top of the hill to view Neuschwanstein, but ah, no. It's not that easy and certainly not 20 minutes. You have your castle tour time, so leave yourself plenty of time to take it easy up that hill if your fitness is less than it used to be. A beautiful day.
I wish I could remember the tour guide's name, I'm sorry, but he really did add so much extra value to the tour. He looked after his charges very well. He gave us so much valuable information on the tour through Dachau. It was a gloomy, cool, drizzly day and this just emphasised the despair and desperateness the inmates of this camp would have felt. Touring a place like this is something everyone should do so that you really do have a lasting impression of the suffering experienced and that this should never, ever happen again. Take this tour. You won't be sorry.
