You have only to look at the picture, of a totally worn out footpath!
This is simply caused by too many feet. There are so many coaches and tour companies milking this spectaculat place for all its worrth. Along with all the places selling complete tat, large numbers of cars the wonderful atmophere is totally spolied. NOT worth visiting.
